2004-05 FERRIS STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL AWARDS PRESENTED

Senior Bridget Horwitz & Sophomore Kristin Reinhart Named Co-MVP Award Winners

Senior forward/center Bridget Horwitz (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) and sophomore guard Kristin Reinhart (East Lansing) were honored as the Ferris State University women’s basketball team’s 2004-05 Co-Most Valuable Player Award recipients at the program’s annual postseason banquet held Sunday (April 17) in FSU’s Wheeler Pavilion at Big Rapids, Mich.

A two-time (2002-03) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Second-Teamer, Horwitz ranked as the leading scorer for FSU this campaign with 415 points in 27 contests (15.4 ppg). She also recorded 195 rebounds (7.2 rpg) while posting 24 double-figure scoring contests en route to receiving All-GLIAC North Division First Team accolades. The 2002-03 Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region Second-Team pick also attained GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors this season (Jan. 3). She concluded her career ranked among the school's all-time top 10 career leaders in points (1,421), rebounds (719), blocked shots (125), made free throws (255), field goals made (582) and field goal percentage (.492). Horwitz was chosen as a GLIAC All-Academic Team pick this campaign and recognized as an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division First-Team selection.

Reinhart, who was named FSU's 2003-04 Rookie of the Year Award winner, received second-team All-GLIAC North Division kudos for the Bulldogs despite missing the final eight games this season due to injury. She netted 308 points in 20 outings this campaign. Reinhart also dished out a team-high 96 assists and tallied 36 steals along with 25 made three-point field goals.

The squad's Sixth Player and Rookie of the Year Awards were both presented to freshman forward/center Rachel Folcik (Powers/Carney-Nadeau). The 6-1 Folcik recorded 245 points, 150 rebounds and 39 assists this season while notching 10 double-digit scoring performances in 28 contests. She tallied 10 points or more in six of the squad's final eight games. Folcik ranked second among the squad's leaders in both field goal percentage (.505) and rebounding (5.4 rpg) along with fourth in scoring (8.8 ppg).

Freshman guard Katie Loosvelt (Trenton/Carlson) claimed the team’s Hardest Worker Award. The 5-3 Loosvelt totaled 84 points, 84 assists, 57 rebounds and 25 steals while seeing action in all 28 contests this campaign. She scored a personal career-high 10 points at Wayne State (1/15) and placed second on the squad in assists (3.0 apg). The Defensive MVP Award was given for the second consecutive year to senior forward Sarah Duesing (Sault Ste. Marie), who registered a personal career-high 123 rebounds, 42 assists and 27 steals this season. The two-time (2004-05) GLIAC All-Defensive and three-time (2003-05) GLIAC All-Academic Team pick was the squad’s third-leading rebounder (4.4 rpg) and placed sixth in scoring (7.2 ppg). She compiled six double-digit scoring efforts in 2004-05.

Senior guard/forward Lucie Cenkova (Prague, Czech Republic) garnered team Most Improved Player Award accolades after recording a personal career-high 298 points, 83 rebounds and 30 assists in her final campaign. She scored 10 points or more in 12 outings, including seven of her final nine appearances this season. Cenkova ranked first in made three-point field goals (51), first in steals (39) and third in scoring (10.6 ppg) among FSU’s 2004-05 leaders.

Ferris State finished the 2004-05 season with an 11-17 overall record. FSU placed fourth in the GLIAC North Division with a 9-9 conference ledger and advanced to the league's postseason tournament for the sixth consecutive year.
