Bulldogs To Host GLIAC Tourney Doubleheader Next Tuesday At Jim Wink Arena

GLIACGame times and ticket prices have been announced for Ferris State's quarterfinal-round men's and women's basketball games in the 2003-04 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament slated for Tuesday, March 2, in FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich.

The Bulldog women will host their first-ever GLIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament home game against an opponent yet to be determined beginning at 6 p.m. (EST) with the men's game set to follow at approximately 8 p.m. (EST). The Bulldog men, who last played in the conference tournament during the 1997-98 campaign, will face either Northwood or Northern Michigan depending upon results of this weekend's (Feb. 26-28) final regular-season contests. Official pairings will be announced by the conference office this weekend.

Tickets for the tournament doubleheader at Wink Arena are $8 for adults and $2 for both Ferris State students with identification and youth up to age 18. One ticket gains admission to both games. Tickets can be purchased beginning this Friday (Feb. 27) by contacting the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888 or will be sold at the door.

The quarterfinal-round winners will advance to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals and finals set for Friday and Saturday, March 5-6, at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Ferris State begins its final regular-season homestand by hosting Northern Michigan this Thursday (Feb. 26) in a women's and men's doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. (EST) and 8 p.m. (EST), respectively, in Wink Arena. FSU then concludes regular season action at home versus Michigan Tech Saturday (Feb. 28) with the women's game scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (EST) and the men's game following at approximately 3 p.m. (EST).

The Bulldog men are presently 12-13 overall and hold a second-place 12-4 mark behind Michigan Tech (13-3) in the GLIAC’s North Division. Ferris can clinch a share of the GLIAC North Division Championship by defeating both NMU and MTU. FSU, which has won more conference championships (nine) than any other league member, last claimed a GLIAC title in 1994-95. Ferris has not won a conference crown since the league was split into two divisions in 1996-97.

The Bulldog women's team is presently 18-7 overall and in second-place with a 13-3 mark behind Lake Superior State (14-2) in the division. Ferris has won 10 of its last 12 games to date this season and is currently ranked third in the latest (Feb. 17) NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Rankings.

Ferris has posted a 3-5 record to date in five previous GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament appearances, including a runner-up finish in 1999-00. The Bulldogs will be making their fifth consecutive women's tourney berth this campaign and sixth appearance in the last seven seasons.

Ferris has not hosted a GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament game since 1994-95 when the Bulldogs lost to Hillsdale (semifinals) and Michigan Tech (consolation) at FSU’s Old Jim Wink Arena. The 1994-95 season marks Ferris' only previous men's league tournament home games. FSU has compiled a 4-7 all-time mark in five previous men's tourney appearances and captured the 1997-98 championship.
