The 5-11 Thwing, who earned honorable mention 2002 Detroit Free Press Class A All-State accolades, guided Davison High School to a 12-9 overall record while averaging 19.6 points and 11 rebounds per contest during the 2002 campaign. The 2002 All-Big Nine Athletic Conference (BNAC) First Team honoree served as the squad’s captain and was also selected among the Detroit News’ Top 100 players this season.
“Audrey played in a competitive conference against many of the top teams in the state, which should help her transition well to the collegiate game,” said Fisk. “She carries herself with a great deal of confidence and is a focused player who will be a great addition for us.”
A two-time (2000-01) All-BNAC Third Team pick, Thwing totaled 10.4 points and eight rebounds per game as the Cardinals compiled a 13-8 overall record in 2001. The four-year letterwinner twice (2001-02) received BNAC All-Academic Award recognition and was a three-year varsity starter under head coach Ray Timmerman.
“Audrey’s not intimidated by anybody and we expect her to adapt well,” Fisk said. “She’s fun to be around and will be a positive asset to our program.”
Besides basketball, Thwing also attained honorable mention All-BCAN honors in volleyball and track and field as a senior. She played Amateur Athletic Union basketball for the Flint (Mich.) Swish, Mid-Michigan Mystics, Downriver Ravens, Motor City Blazers and the Orion Shock. She was active in the school’s varsity choir, musical and play productions along with serving as both the BNAC Sportsmanship/Leadership and senior class representative.
Thwing, who joins guard Kristin Reinhart (East Lansing) and guard/forward Hailey Potter (Temperance/Ida) as FSU’s 2003-04 women’s basketball signees to date, is the daughter of Paul and Julie Thwing. She plans to major in applied biology at Ferris State.
Ferris State, which finished the year 15-11 overall and 10-8 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action, reached the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year and posted its seventh straight 10-win campaign during the 2002-03 season.
