FERRIS STATE INKS EAST LANSING’S KRISTIN REINHART
First-Team All-State Player Joins Bulldog Women’s Basketball Program
Fifth-year Ferris State University women’s basketball head coach Tracey Fisk has announced the addition of prep basketball player Kristin Reinhart (East Lansing), who has committed to attend and play basketball at FSU beginning with the 2003-04 academic year.
Reinhart, a 5-5 guard, averaged 18 points, four rebounds and two assists per game while leading East Lansing High School to a 20-3 overall record as a senior during the 2002 campaign. She attained first-team 2002 Class A All-State recognition from the Associated Press, Detroit News, Detroit Free Press and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM). Reinhart also finished fifth overall in the voting for Michigan’s Miss Basketball Award and was a member of the Lansing State Journal’s Dream Team.
“Kristin’s extremely capable of competing at the Division II level and making an immediate impact,” Fisk said. “She sees the floor well and is an unselfish player who will be a great addition to our program.”
A two-time (2001-02) All-Capital Area Conference (CAC) First-Team honoree, Reinhart earned honorable mention all-area honors as a junior after registering 11.9 points and 3.3 assists per game. The two-time (2001-02) team Most Valuable Player Award recipient holds school records for consecutive free throws made in a game (6) and in a season (20) along with most three-point baskets (6) in a single contest.
“She gives us another outside shooter who is also a good finisher going to the basket,” said Fisk. “Kristin is a quick and aggressive player who’s more than willing to sacrifice her body by drawing charges. Her overall ability should help make us a better team.”
A 2002 BCAM Academic All-State pick, Reinhart earned team Best Offensive Player Award kudos in 2001. She twice (2001-02) served as the Trojans’ team captain and garnered the school’s Rookie of the Year and Hustle Awards as a sophomore under head coach Rob Smith.
Besides basketball, Reinhart also participated in golf and received 2002 Michigan High School Athletic Association Division II All-State accolades. The four-time All-CAC golf honoree was active in East Lansing’s Students Against Drinking and Drugs and Athletes 4 Kids programs in addition to being the school’s CAC Sportsmanship Seminar representative.
Reinhart, who remains undecided on a major at Ferris State, is the daughter of Bob and Joni Reinhart. She represents the Bulldogs’ first 2003-04 women’s basketball signee.
FSU, which finished the year 15-11 overall and 10-8 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action, reached the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year and posted its seventh straight 10-win campaign during the 2002-03 season.
