Ferris State Earns One First-Place Vote In League Balloting

The Ferris State University women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the 2003-04 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Basketball Coaches Preseason North Division Poll, which was released Monday (Nov. 10) by the league office.
The Bulldogs totaled 26 points and one first-place vote in the balloting, which was conducted by the conference's head coaches. A year ago, Ferris State took fifth place in the conference's preseason coaches poll with 16 points.
Grand Valley State was selected as the North Division favorite as the Lakers recorded 33 points along with three first-place votes. Wayne State took the top spot in the South Division with 22 points and two first-place votes.
The league's 13 head coaches voted for the division in which they play, but were not allowed to vote for their own team. The first-place team in the North Division ballot received six points while the second-place team received five points, etc. In the South Division, the first-place team was granted five points while the second-place team took four points, etc.
Ferris State, which finished the 2002-03 campaign with a 15-11 overall record and a fourth-place 10-8 conference mark, reached the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year and posted its seventh straight 10-win campaign. The Bulldogs return eight letterwinners and five starters from last season.
FSU will open its 30th season of varsity competition this Saturday (Nov. 15) at Lewis (Ill.) in Romeoville, Ill. Tipoff for the non-league encounter in LU's Neil Carey Arena is set for 4:30 p.m. (EST).
