FERRIS STATE ADDS PREP BASKETBALL RECRUIT LINDSEY DEYO
Gull Lake High School Product Represents Bulldogs’ First 2004-05 Commitment
The Ferris State University women’s basketball program has signed Lindsey Deyo (Battle Creek/Gull Lake) to a national letter-of-intent to attend and play basketball at FSU, starting with the 2004-05 season. The announcement was made by the Bulldogs’ sixth-year head coach Tracey Fisk.
A 5-11 forward, Deyo averaged 10.7 points and six rebounds per game in 2003 for Richland’s Gull Lake High School, which claimed both a district and regional championship with a school-record 22-4 overall mark. The honorable mention all-state selection also received first-team All-Wolverine Conference kudos for the second consecutive campaign after leading GLHS in both scoring and rebounding for the second-straight season. Gull Lake fell to Lansing Catholic Central in the 2003 Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class B State Quarterfinals (Dec. 2) at Charlotte, Mich.
“Lindsey is extremely unselfish and a total team player,” Fisk said. “She’s a solid competitor whose teams have done well throughout her career. Her personality is a perfect fit with our returning players.”
A three-time Battle Creek Enquirer all-area pick, Deyo attained team Most Valuable Player Award recognition for the second time this season and was selected among the Detroit News’ Top 100 players. Deyo set school marks for seasonal field goal percentage (.545) and career field goal percentage (.515) in her final campaign. She also served as the Blue Devils’ team captain under head coach Mike Balcom.
“Her energetic and upbeat attitude is a positive addition for us,” said Fisk. “Lindsey works hard and is committed to doing whatever it takes to make her team better.”
Besides basketball, Deyo has participated in softball, volleyball and soccer as a prepster. She also played Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball for the Michigan Belles.
In addition to athletics, Deyo has been active in the National Honor Society, Captain’s Council, Student Council and 4-H. She also serves as class vice president and was named homecoming queen.
The daughter of John and Pamela Deyo, Lindsey plans to major in marketing/business at Ferris State. She represents the Bulldogs’ first 2004-05 recruit.
Ferris State, which is presently 11-5 overall and 6-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action, will host Gannon this Thursday (Jan. 22) in a 6 p.m. (EST) league encounter at FSU’s Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Ferris will then square off against Mercyhurst Saturday (Jan. 24) at 1 p.m. (EST) in a home GLIAC contest.
