Senior guard Lucy DeMartin (Mason), a member of the 2003-04 Ferris State University women’s basketball team, has been named to the 2003-04 Women’s Division II Bulletin Preseason Super 16 All-America Team as announced by the publication.

DeMartin, a 2002-03 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region First-Team selection, was also chosen as the publication’s preseason Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Year. She was among two individuals from the Great Lakes Region receiving preseason All-America accolades along with Lyndsey Neal from Bellarmine (Ky.). Grand Valley State’s Julie Zeeff was the only other player from a GLIAC-member institution receiving preseason recognition as she was one of 36 honorable mention selections. The publication serves as a monthly newsletter for Division II women’s basketball.

DeMartin's team-leading 20.2 points per game scoring average last season ranked first among the school’s all-time leaders and placed second in the GLIAC’s overall statistical rankings. The two-time (2002-03) GLIAC All-Academic Team pick compiled a school-record 525 points while earning 2002-03 Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division Women's Basketball First Team accolades. A 2001-02 Verizon Academic All-District IV Second-Teamer, DeMartin was named the GLIAC's North Division Player of the Week three times (Dec. 2 and 16, Feb. 24) last year. The 2002-03 FSU Most Valuable Player Award recipient posted 26 double-figure scoring outings, including 13 20-plus point performances en route to claiming All-GLIAC North Division First-Team honors last campaign.

The 5-9 DeMartin, who currently has an active 31-game double-figure scoring streak, presently has 1,154 career points and ranks seventh on FSU’s career scoring leaders chart. She ranks seventh (.348; 70-201) among Ferris’ career three-point field goal percentage leaders and is fourth (.799; 274-343) on the school’s career free throw percentage chart to date.

Ferris State, which finished the 2002-03 campaign with a 15-11 overall record and a 10-8 conference mark, reached the GLIAC Tournament for the fourth consecutive year and posted its seventh straight 10-win campaign a year ago.

FSU is slated to open its 30th anniversary campaign Saturday, Nov. 15, at Lewis (Ill.) in Romeoville, Ill. Tipoff for the non-league encounter is set for 4:30 p.m. (EST). The Bulldogs return eight letterwinners and five starters from last season entering head coach Tracey Fisk’s sixth season at the helm.
