Ferris State Duo Honored Among Great Lakes Region's Top Performers

Senior guard Lucy DeMartin (Mason) and sophomore guard Erin Miller (Niles) of the 2003-04 Ferris State women's basketball team have both received Daktronics Division II All-Great Lakes Region accolades in an announcement made today (March 9).

DeMartin, who previously attained first-team 2002-03 Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region honors, joined Northern Michigan's Tiffany Grubaugh and Jodi Young of Wayne State as first-team all-region representatives from a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)-member institution. Miller was one of four league players named to the all-region second-team along with Julie Zeeff of Grand Valley State, Michigan Tech's Andrea Novak and Allyson Conaway of Lake Superior State. The first-team members are forwarded along to the national ballot and now eligible for All-America recognition.
A first-team 2003-04 All-GLIAC North Division honoree, DeMartin presently ranks as the school's all-time scoring leader with 1,700 career points and has an active 61-game double-figure scoring streak. In addition, she has posted a school single-season record 546 points to date this season and was recently named to the first-team 2003-04 Verizon Academic All-America College Division squad.
DeMartin, who currently ranks as FSU's leading scorer (18.2 ppg) this season, also holds the school's career mark with 400 made free throws and is listed among Ferris' top 10 career leaders in field goals (598), steals (193), assists (349), blocked shots (34), three-point field goals (104), three-point field goal percentage (.338) and free throw percentage (.781).
Miller, who was named FSU’s 2002-03 Rookie of the Year Award winner, presently has reached double-figure scoring in 28 of her 30 contests this campaign and ranks as the Bulldogs' second-leading scorer (17.3 ppg) to date. Miller was the recipient of the GLIAC’s 2002-03 Freshman of the Year Award after ranking as the team’s third-leading scorer (12.5 ppg). The 5-7 Miller, who garnered third-team Verizon Academic All-District IV recognition this year, also attained GLIAC North Division Player of the Week accolades twice this campaign – Jan. 5 and Feb. 9.
DeMartin and Miller guided FSU to its second-ever NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance this campaign. The Bulldogs, who are presently 21-9 overall, compiled a second-place 14-4 GLIAC North Division mark this campaign and finished second in the league's 2003-04 postseason tournament. FSU is slated to face Ashland this Friday (March 12) in the opening round of the NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional at Quincy, Ill. Tipoff is set for 12 p.m. (CST).
