LUCY DEMARTIN NAMED TO HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICA TEAM

Senior Co-Captain Receives Division II Women's Basketball Bulletin Recognition

Senior guard Lucy DeMartin (Mason) of the 2003-04 Ferris State University women's basketball team has been named to the Division II Women's Basketball Bulletin Honorable Mention All-America team in an announcement made recently (April 6) by the publication.

Lucy DeMartinThe 5-9 DeMartin joined Michigan Tech's Andrea Novak and Jodi Young of Wayne State as honorees from a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member institution. Novak attained fourth-team All-America recognition while Young was an honorable mention choice. The publication chose four five-member All-America teams and selected 33 additional student-athletes as honorable mention honorees.

DeMartin, who previously attained both first-team 2003-04 Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region and All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division honors, concluded her career as the school's all-time scoring leader with 1,721 career points. In addition, she posted a school single-season record 567 points this season and received first-team 2003-04 Verizon Academic All-America College Division kudos. DeMartin was also a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Great Lakes Region First Team selection and among 40 national finalists for the NCAA Division II Kodak/WBCA All-America Team.

DeMartin, who ranked as FSU's leading scorer (18.3 ppg) this season, finished her career as the school's leader with 402 made free throws and is listed among Ferris' all-time top 10 performers in field goals (605), steals (198), assists (356), rebounds (415), blocked shots (35), three-point field goals (109), three-point field goal percentage (.344) and free throw percentage (.778).

A 2002-03 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region First-Team selection, DeMartin was previously named to the 2003-04 Division II Women's Basketball Bulletin Preseason Super 16 All-America Team and chosen as the publication’s preseason GLIAC Player of the Year. Her team-leading 20.2 points per game scoring average in 2002-03 ranked first among the school’s all-time leaders and placed second in the GLIAC’s overall statistical rankings.

The team co-captain guided FSU to its second-ever NCAA Division II National Tournament appearance this campaign. The Bulldogs, who concluded the year with a 21-10 overall record, compiled a second-place 14-4 GLIAC North Division mark this campaign and finished second in the league's 2003-04 postseason tournament.
