Jan. 29: Bulldogs Head North With 11-6 Mark

FSU Basketball At A Glance - The Ferris State University women's basketball team will battle the Michigan Tech University Huskies this Thursday (Jan. 31) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at MTU's Student Development Center Gymnasium in Houghton, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. (EST). FSU will then square off against the nationally-ranked Northern Michigan University Wildcats in a conference contest this Sunday (Feb. 3) at 1 p.m. (EST) in NMU's Berry Events Center at Marquette, Mich.

Last Week - Ferris State defeated the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals, 75-65, in GLIAC action last Thursday (Jan. 24) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs dropped a 64-63 league home decision to the Lake Superior State University Lakers last Saturday (Jan. 26). FSU is currently 11-6 overall and 7-3 in conference action. Ferris ranks 118th of 1,309 institutions (all levels) represented in the latest (Jan. 21) Dunkel Sports Research Index Women's Basketball Ratings. Lake Superior State is ranked first while the Bulldogs are eighth in the current (Jan. 23) NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional rankings. FSU has presently won seven of its last 10 games and is 3-1 against GLIAC North Division opponents this campaign.

Horwitz Posts Sixth Double Effort - Sophomore center Bridget Horwitz notched her sixth double-double (points and rebounds) performance this campaign versus Saginaw Valley State as she tallied 23 points and 14 rebounds. The 6-2 Horwitz has currently scored 10 points or more in 14 of 17 games this season. She presently has 42 career blocked shots and needs two more to tie Dawn Baker (44; 1997-00) for third place on the all-time FSU list. Horwitz posted a career-high five blocks against SVSU. Her current 25 blocks this year presently is tied for second place on Ferris' single-season chart. Horwitz is currently fifth (.493; 188-391) on the school's career field goal percentage chart. She ranks as FSU's leading rebounder (8.7 rpg) and second-leading scorer (14.7 ppg) to date this season.

Brogger Increasing Productivity - Junior forward Jennifer Brogger has attained double-figure scoring in eight of the last 10 games and has 12 double-digit scoring performances this campaign. The 5-9 Brogger has made 74 career three-point field goals to date and ranks seventh on the all-time FSU list. She currently ranks second in career free throw percentage (.825; 104-126) and ninth in career three-point field goal percentage (.329; 74-225). Brogger presently has 87 career assists and is 13 shy of notching her 100th career assist. She is Ferris' fourth-leading scorer (12.7 ppg) to date this campaign.

Killips Climbing Career Charts - Senior guard Debbie Killips is presently FSU's leading scorer (16.4 ppg) and the school's career steals leader (293). A second-team 2000-01 GLIAC North Division pick, Killips currently has scored 918 career points and is eight points away from tying Tianna Kirkland (926; 1996-00), who's 10th on the school's all-time chart. The 5-7 Killips presently ranks third on Ferris' career assists list (386) and needs 105 more to tie second-place holder Jodi Raab (491; 1989-93). Killips notched her second double-double (points and assists) outing this campaign as she totaled 15 points and 10 assists versus Lake Superior State.

Head Coach Tracey Fisk - Tracey Fisk has a current career coaching record of 67-34 (.663) in her fourth season at Ferris State. A 1996 graduate of Western Michigan, Fisk guided Ferris State to a 22-7 mark and the school's first NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance during the 1999-2000 campaign. Prior to FSU, Fisk spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Lake Michigan College (1994-97) and one season at the University of Indianapolis (1997-98).

Bulldog Bites - Sophomore guard Lucy DeMartin currently ranks third (.821; 119-145) on Ferris' career free throw percentage chart ........ FSU's top four season-scoring leaders (Debbie Killips, Bridget Horwitz, Jennifer Brogger and DeMartin) have accounted for 79% (973-1,238) of the squad's total points this season .............. Killips has been FSU's assists leader 10 of the last 12 games. She has registered 13 double-figure scoring games this campaign ... Sophomore guard Michelle Welch currently has 74 career points and is 26 points shy of notching her 100th career point ............ Killips presently ranks 10th in career field goal percentage (.463; 333-720), second in career three-point field goal percentage (.382; 94-246) and seventh in career free throw percentage (.782; 158-202) at Ferris State ......... FSU head coach Tracey Fisk needs five more wins to tie Lori Hyman (72-86; 1989-95) for second place on the school's career coaching victory list ......... Sophomore forward Stephanie Benear notched her 100th career rebound against Saginaw Valley State and currently has 105 career boards .......... Against Michigan Tech - FSU and Michigan Tech will square off for the 43rd time this Thursday in Houghton. The Huskies lead the all-time series 26-16 and have won three of the past four contests. In the last series' meeting (Feb. 24, 2001), Michigan Tech posted a 70-60 home win. Ferris State head coach Tracey Fisk has a current 1-5 career coaching mark versus MTU. The Huskies are 11-7 overall and 5-5 in GLIAC action heading into this Thursday's contest. Michigan Tech is coached by Darla Olson, who's in her fourth season at the helm. Sophomore forward Andrea Novak is currently MTU's leading scorer (13.0 ppg) this season. The Huskies have won three-straight games to date this campaign.

Scouting Northern Michigan - Sunday's contest marks the 45th series meeting against Northern Michigan with the Wildcats holding a 32-12 series advantage. Northern Michigan has won three of the last five contests and defeated the Bulldogs 60-53 at Marquette in the last series meeting (Feb. 22, 2001). Ferris State head coach Tracey Fisk has a current 2-5 career coaching record versus NMU. The Wildcats are 12-5 overall and 7-3 in GLIAC action heading into this Thursday's (Jan. 31) home conference contest against Grand Valley State. Northern Michigan is coached by 14th-year head coach Mike Geary. Senior guard Marisa DellAngelo is presently NMU's scoring leader (19.8 ppg) this season. The Wildcats have won three of their last five games to date and are ranked 21st in the latest (Jan. 23) USA Today/ESPN/Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll.
