Jan. 8: Bulldogs Win Two Road Games; Improve to 4-1 in GLIAC

FSU Basketball at a Glance - The Ferris State University women's basketball team will face the Ashland (Ohio) University Eagles in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest this Saturday (Jan. 12) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. (EST). The Bulldogs are currently 8-4 overall and 4-1 in conference action. FSU has won four of its past five games.

Last Week - Ferris State won two conference road games last weekend (Jan. 3 and 5). FSU posted an 82-67 victory last Thursday (Jan. 3) against the Hillsdale College Chargers at HC's Jessie Phillips Arena in Hillsdale, Mich. The Bulldogs then defeated the Wayne State University Warriors 87-75 in double overtime last Saturday (Jan. 5) at WSU's Matthaei Complex in Detroit, Mich. FSU ranks 79th of 1,309 institutions (all levels) represented in the latest (Dec. 31) Dunkel Sports Research Index Women's Basketball Ratings. The Bulldogs are seventh in the latest (Dec. 19) NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional rankings. New rankings will be released this Wednesday (Jan. 9).

Horwitz Has Career Day - Sophomore center Bridget Horwitz scored a career-high 28 points and had a personal best 16 rebounds as she notched her fifth double-double (points and rebounds) performance of the season against Wayne State. Horwitz added 14 points, five rebounds and four blocks versus Hillsdale.

The 6-2 Horwitz presently ranks as FSU's leading rebounder (8.9 rebounds per game) and second-leading scorer (14.7 points per game). She currently has an active eight-game double-figure scoring streak and has tallied 10 points or more in 11 of 12 games this campaign.

Horwitz has 32 career blocks to date and needs five more to tie Danielle Smith (37; 1988-91) for sixth place on the FSU career blocks chart. She presently has 193 career rebounds and is seven shy of posting her 200th career rebound.

Brogger Moves Up The Chart - Junior forward Jennifer Brogger has made 71 career three-point field goals to date and moved into sixth place on the all-time FSU chart with five treys versus Wayne State. The 5-9 Brogger has registered nine double-figure scoring outings this season and presently ranks as FSU's fourth-leading scorer (13.2 ppg). Brogger currently ranks seventh on FSU's career three-point field goal percentage chart (.350; 71-203). She has reached double-digits (scoring) in five consecutive outings. Brogger currently has 191 career rebounds and needs nine more to register her 200th career rebound.

Killips Scores 800th Career Point - Senior point guard Debbie Killips scored her 800th career point against Hillsdale and currently ranks 13th on the school's career scoring chart (822 points). She presently has 361 career assists and is three assists away from Monta Ware (364; 1979-83), who ranks fourth on the all-time FSU assists list. A second-team 2000-01 GLIAC North Division pick, Killips is presently FSU's season scoring leader (15.2 ppg) and the school's career steals leader (274 steals). Killips has eight double-figure scoring games to date this season.

Head Coach Tracey Fisk - Tracey Fisk has a current career coaching record of 64-32 (.667) in her fourth season at Ferris State. A 1996 graduate of Western Michigan, Fisk guided Ferris State to a 22-7 mark and the school's first NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance during the 1999-2000 campaign. Prior to FSU, Fisk spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Lake Michigan College (1994-97) and one season at the University of Indianapolis (1997-98).

Bulldog Bites - Sophomore guard Lucy DeMartin grabbed her 100th career rebound against Hillsdale and has posted five consecutive double-figure scoring outings .......... Sophomore forward Stephanie Benear presently has scored 96 career points and is four points shy of registering her 100th career point ........... Sophomore guard Lindsey Kohn scored a career-high 16 points versus Hillsdale ............. FSU's top four season scoring leaders (Debbie Killips, Lucy DeMartin, Horwitz and Jennifer Brogger) have accounted for 690 of the squad's 889 total points (78%) this season .............. Killips has been FSU's assists leader the last seven consecutive games ........... FSU won its eighth consecutive series meeting against Wayne State .......... Sophomore guard Michelle Welch currently has 68 career points and is 32 points shy of notching her 100th career point ............ Killips has made 78 career three-point field goals to date and needs 10 more to tie Jen Newsone (88; 1998-00) for fifth place on the all-time FSU list ........ Killips presently ranks 10th in career field goal percentage (.463; 297-642), fifth in career three-point field goal percentage (.364; 78-214) and seventh in career free throw percentage (.789; 150-190) at Ferris State ........... DeMartin currently ranks second (.821; 101-123) while Brogger ranks third (.820; 91-111) in Ferris' career free throw percentage list ........... Horwitz is presently fifth (.505; 157-311) on the school's career field goal percentage chart.

Against Ashland University - Saturday's contest marks the 10th series meeting against Ashland. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 5-4 and have won three straight series meetings. In the last meeting (Dec. 2, 2000), FSU defeated the Eagles 75-55 at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Ferris State head coach Tracey Fisk has a current career coaching mark of 3-0 versus Ashland. The Eagles are 10-4 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC action heading into this Thursday's (Jan. 10) league game at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Ashland is coached by Sue Ramsey, who is in her seventh season at the helm. Sophomore center Jackie Mason is currently AU's season scoring leader (14.9 ppg). Ashland has won three of its last four contests to date.

Home Court Advantage - Ferris State is presently 23-4 (.852) overall in three seasons of action at Jim Wink Arena. The 2,400-seat facility replaced the Old Jim Wink Arena, which was converted into the current Student Recreation Center after the 1997-98 campaign. The Bulldogs compiled a 127-125 overall mark in 24 seasons of action at the Old Jim Wink Arena (1974-98). FSU won its first 14 games in the new arena and was 9-0 at home during the inaugural 1999-2000 campaign. The Bulldogs are presently 4-2 at home this season.

Up Next - Ferris State will face the Northwood University Timberwolves next Thursday (Jan. 17) at 5:30 p.m. (EST) at NU's Bennett Sports Center in Midland, Mich.
