TWO BULLDOG PLAYERS EARN VERIZON ACADEMIC HONORS
Debbie Killips, Lucy DeMartin Named To Verizon Academic All-District IV Team
Feb. 21, 2002
Senior guard Debbie Killips and sophomore guard Lucy DeMartin, both members of the 2001-02 Ferris State University women's basketball team, have earned 2001-02 Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division recognition.
Killips, a 2000-01 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division All-Defensive Team honoree, garnered first-team all-district honors for the second consecutive season. A second-team 2000-01 GLIAC North Division pick, Killips was the top District IV vote getter in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA). As a first-team honoree, Killips will be placed on the national Verizon Academic All-America ballot.
The 5-7 Killips currently ranks as FSU's leading scorer (15.7 ppg) and the school's career steals leader (312). She became the ninth player in school history to record 1,000 career points while tallying a game-high 20 points at Saginaw Valley State (Feb. 16). An applied biology major, Killips has a cumulative 3.92 grade point average (gpa).
DeMartin received second-team all-district recognition. She presently ranks as Ferris' third-leading scorer (14.0 ppg) and has recorded 17 double-figure scoring outings this campaign. The 5-9 DeMartin posted a 3.93 cumulative gpa in Ferris' elementary education program.
Killips joins Northern Michigan's Leigh Ann Dalton (guard) and Marisa DellAngelo (guard) as the lone first-team representatives from a GLIAC member school. DeMartin was one of three student-athletes from conference schools named to the second-team squad along with Ashland University's Jackie Mason (center) and Tessa Pernsteiner (guard) of Michigan Tech.
