Feb. 19: Bulldogs Clinch GLIAC Tourney Berth

FSU Basketball At A Glance - The Ferris State University women's basketball team will host the Northern Michigan University Wildcats this Thursday (Feb. 21) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. (EST). FSU will then conclude the regular season campaign against the Michigan Tech University Huskies this Saturday (Feb. 23) in a 1 p.m. (EST) league home game.

Last Week - Ferris State defeated the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals, 75-55, this past Saturday (Feb. 16) in GLIAC action at SVSU's O'Neill Arena in University Center, Mich. The Bulldogs have clinched a berth in the GLIAC Tournament (Feb. 28-March 2) at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids, Mich. Ferris is currently 14-9 overall and 10-6 (3rd place-North Division) in league play. The Bulldogs rank 192nd of 1,308 institutions (all levels) represented in the latest (Feb. 11) Dunkel Sports Research Index Women's Basketball Ratings. FSU, which currently is midst a three-game win streak, has qualified for the conference tournament three consecutive seasons to date.

Killips Reaches Century Mark - Senior guard Debbie Killips became the ninth player in school history to record 1,000 career points while tallying a game-high 20 points at Saginaw Valley State. She currently has registered 1,001 career points in 107 appearances (9.4 ppg). A second-team 2000-01 GLIAC North Division pick, Killips is presently FSU's leading scorer (15.7 ppg) this campaign and the school's career steals leader (312). The 5-7 Killips currently ranks third on Ferris' career assists list (416) and needs 75 more to tie second-place holder Jodi Raab (491; 1989-93). She has registered 365 career field goals to date and is 10 shy of tying Sandy Davison (375; 1983-86) for eighth place on the school's all-time chart. Killips presently ranks 10th in career field goal percentage (.453; 365-805), fifth in career three-point field goal percentage (.364; 102-280) and seventh in career free throw percentage (.790; 169-214). She is listed 24th in steals (3.4 spg) in the latest (Feb. 11) NCAA Division II national statistics.

DeMartin Holds Career Lead - Sophomore guard Lucy DeMartin currently ranks first (.845; 147-174) on FSU's career free throw percentage chart and is presently Ferris' third-leading scorer (14.0 ppg) this campaign. She has registered 17 double-figure scoring outings this season, including four of the last five contests to date. DeMartin presently ranks fourth in free throw percentage (.871; 81-93) in the latest (Feb. 18) conference statistics. Her current season free throw percentage is listed third on the school's single-season chart. DeMartin needs six made free throws to tie Karen Kramer (87; 1986-87) for 10th place on Ferris' single-season list.

Horwitz Producing For FSU - Sophomore center Bridget Horwitz notched her 19th double-figure scoring performance this campaign while totaling 16 points at Saginaw Valley State. The 6-2 Horwitz has tallied 10 points or more in five consecutive outings. She presently has 51 career blocked shots and ranks third on the all-time FSU list. Her current 34 blocks this year presently ranks second on Ferris' single-season chart. Horwitz is currently eighth (.467; 222-475) on the school's career field goal percentage chart. She also is FSU's leading rebounder (8.9 rpg) and second-leading scorer (14.7 ppg) to date this season.

Head Coach Tracey Fisk - Tracey Fisk has a current career coaching record of 70-37 (.654) in four seasons at Ferris State. A 1996 graduate of Western Michigan, Fisk guided Ferris State to a 22-7 mark and the school's first NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance during the 1999-2000 campaign. Prior to FSU, Fisk spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Lake Michigan College (1994-97) and one season at the University of Indianapolis (1997-98).

Senior guard Debbie Killips presently has 82 steals this campaign and needs three more to tie Valerie Scott (85; 1996-97) for fourth place on FSU's single-season chart ......... Lucy DeMartin has registered 583 career points to date and is 17 points shy of notching her 600th career point ........... Bridget Horwitz has currently grabbed 291 career rebounds and needs nine more to register her 300th career board .......... Killips has currently dished out 116 assists this campaign and is four away from tying Keri Thomas (120; 1988-89) for 10th place on the school's single-season list. She has made 44 three-point field goals to date this season and is two shy of matching Ann Rienstra (46; 1988-89) for seventh place on Ferris' single-season chart .......... Sophomore guard Michelle Welch currently has scored 86 career points and is 14 points shy of attaining her 100th career point .......... Killips has made 102 career three-point field goals to date and needs 33 more to tie Jodi Raab (135; 1989-93) for second place on the school's all-time list ........... Ferris head coach Tracey Fisk needs two more wins to tie Lori Hyman (72-86; 1989-95) for second place on the school's career coaching victory chart ........ Ferris State ranks ninth nationally in team free throw percentage (76%; 325-428) in the latest (Feb. 11) NCAA Division II statistics.

Brogger Closing In On Personal Marks - Junior forward Jennifer Brogger has attained double-figure scoring in 13 of the last 18 games to date and has 15 double-digit scoring performances this campaign. She currently has made 84 career three-point field goals and ranks seventh on FSU's all-time list. The 5-9 Brogger is listed fifth nationally in free throw percentage (.881; 59-67) in the latest (Feb. 11) NCAA Division II statistics. Brogger has registered 593 career points to date and needs seven more to garner her 600th career point.

Against Northern Michigan - Thursday's contest marks the 46th series meeting against Northern Michigan with the Wildcats holding a 33-12 advantage. Northern Michigan has won four of the last six contests and defeated the Bulldogs 95-75 at Marquette in the last series meeting (Feb. 3, 2002). Ferris State head coach Tracey Fisk has a current 2-6 career coaching record versus NMU. The Wildcats are 17-7 overall and 11-5 in GLIAC action heading into this Thursday's contest. Northern Michigan is coached by 14th-year head coach Mike Geary. Senior guard Marisa DellAngelo is presently NMU's scoring leader (20.3 ppg) this season. The Wildcats have won four consecutive games to date.

Scouting Michigan Tech - FSU and Michigan Tech will square off for the 44th time this Saturday. The Huskies lead the all-time series 27-16 and have won four of the past five contests. In the last series' meeting (Jan. 31, 2002), Michigan Tech posted a 69-67 home win. Ferris State head coach Tracey Fisk has a current 1-6 career coaching mark versus MTU. The Huskies are 16-8 overall and 10-6 in GLIAC action heading into this Thursday's (Feb. 21) league contest at Grand Valley State. Michigan Tech is coached by Darla Olson, who's in her fourth season at the helm. Sophomore forward Andrea Novak is currently the leading scorer (14.0 ppg) this season for the Huskies, who have won four-straight games to date this campaign.

Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $3. A family pass can be purchased for $10. Ferris State faculty/staff ticket prices are $4. Special group pricing is available for groups of 20 or more.

Up Next - Ferris State will take part in the 12th annual GLIAC Tournament beginning next Thursday, Feb. 28, at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids, Mich. Game times will be announced this Sunday (Feb. 24). The GLIAC championship game is slated for Saturday, March 2, at 8 p.m. (EST).
