Dec. 21: Bulldogs Slated to Host Ranked Teams

FSU Basketball at a Glance - The Ferris State University women's basketball team will square off with the Northern Kentucky University Norse Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. (EST) at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs will host the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Sunday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. (EST). Northern Kentucky is ranked first in the latest (Dec. 19) USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Division II Top 25 poll while Southern Indiana is ranked 10th.

Bulldogs Split Classic Games - Ferris State split two games in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)/Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Classic held at Jim Wink Arena (Dec. 19-20). Bellarmine (Ky.) University forward Lynne Johnson scored the game-winning field goal on an inbounds play at the buzzer to lift the Knights to a 76-74 win over Ferris State in FSU's classic opener (Dec. 19). The Bulldogs bounced back to defeat the St. Joseph's (Ind.) College Pumas 77-61 in the Classic finale (Dec. 20). Ferris State is currently 5-3 overall and 2-1 in GLIAC action. FSU is ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional rankings (Dec. 19).

Killips Becomes FSU Leader - Senior point guard Debbie Killips became FSU's all-time career steals leader against Bellarmine as she surpassed Valerie Scott (253; 1994-97). Killips registered seven thefts against Bellarmine and presently has 256 career steals. A second-team 2000-01 All-GLIAC North Division pick, Killips dished out a career-high 12 assists versus St. Joseph's. She currently has 335 career assists and is 29 assists away from Monta Ware (364; 1979-83), who is fourth on FSU's career assists chart. Killips has made 75 career three-point field goals to date and needs 13 more to tie Jen Newsone (88; 1998-00) for fifth place on the all-time FSU list. A 2001-02 FSU captain, Killips presently ranks as FSU's leading scorer (15.5 points per game). Killips currently ranks eighth in career field goal percentage (.474; 278-587), second in career three-point field goal percentage (.379; 75-198) and sixth in career free throw percentage (.782; 133-170) at Ferris State.

DeMartin Posts Personal Best - Sophomore guard Lucy DeMartin posted a career-high 11 rebounds as she notched her first career double-double (points and rebounds) performance versus St. Joseph's. DeMartin presently ranks as FSU's third-leading scorer (13.1 ppg) and is second in career free throw percentage (.806; 83-103) at FSU. DeMartin currently has 49 career steals and is one shy of registering her 50th career steal. During the 2000-01 campaign, the 5-9 DeMartin was FSU's third-leading scorer with 261 points in 27 games (9.7 ppg).

Brogger Moves Up FSU Chart - Junior forward Jennifer Brogger has made 61 career three-point field goals to date and tied Sarah Kaechele (61; 1995-99) for ninth place on the all-time FSU chart with three treys versus St. Joseph's. The 5-9 Brogger has registered five double-figure scoring outings this season and presently ranks as FSU's fourth-leading scorer (11.5 ppg). Brogger currently ranks ninth on FSU's career three-point field goal percentage chart (.333; 61-183) and notched her first career double-double (points and rebounds) versus Bellarmine. She has scored 396 career points to date and and is four points away from recording her 400th career point. Brogger has reached double-figures (scoring) in four of the past five outings.

Horwitz Scores 300th Point - Sophomore center Bridget Horwitz currently has 26 career blocks and needs five more to tie Darlene Vondrasek (31; 1989-93) for eighth place on the FSU career blocks list. Horwitz has registered seven double-figure scoring games and four double-double (points and rebounds) outings this season. The 6-2 Horwitz is currently FSU's leading rebounder (9.4 rebounds per game) and second-leading scorer (13.4 ppg). She tallied her 300th career point against the Pumas and presently has scored 304 career points.

Home Sweet Home - Ferris State is presently 22-3 (.880) overall in three seasons of action at Jim Wink Arena. The 2,400-seat facility replaced the Old Jim Wink Arena, which was converted into the current Student Recreation Center after the 1997-98 campaign. The Bulldogs compiled a 127-125 overall mark in 24 seasons of action at the Old Jim Wink Arena (1974-98). FSU won its first 14 games in the new arena and was 9-0 at home during the inaugural 1999-2000 campaign.

Head Coach Tracey Fisk - Tracey Fisk has a current career coaching record of 61-31 (.663) in her fourth season at Ferris State. A 1996 graduate of Western Michigan, Fisk guided Ferris State to a 22-7 mark and the school's first NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance during the 2000-01 campaign. Prior to FSU, Fisk spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Lake Michigan College (1994-97) and one season at the University of Indianapolis (1997-98).

Against the Norse - Next Saturday's contest marks the fifth series meeting between Ferris State and Northern Kentucky. The Bulldogs are 0-4 all-time against the Norse. In the last series meeting, Northern Kentucky defeated Ferris State 89-72 in Highland Heights, Ky. (Dec. 30, 2000). FSU head coach Tracey Fisk is 0-1 versus the Norse. Northern Kentucky is 1-0 all-time in Big Rapids.

Scouting Northern Kentucky - Northern Kentucky is 9-0 overall heading into this Friday's (Dec. 21) game against Delta State (Miss.) University. The Norse are 5-0 in GLVC play. Northern Kentucky is coached by Nancy Winstel, who is in her 19th season at the helm. Winstel guided NKU to the 1999-2000 NCAA Division II National Championship. Senior forward Michelle Cottrell is presently NKU's leading scorer (20.1 ppg).

FSU Ticket Prices - Individual game tickets to all FSU home basketball games can be obtained at the door or by calling the Bulldog ticket office at (231) 591-2888. Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $3. A family pass can be purchased for $10. Ferris State faculty/staff ticket prices are $4. Special group pricing is available for groups of 20 or more.

Benear Has Career Day - Sophomore forward Stephanie Benear grabbed a personal-best 10 rebounds against St. Joseph's. Benear presently has scored 84 career points and needs 16 more to register her 100th career point. She has started all eight games this season.

Bulldog Bites - Sophomore forward Molly Potvin missed both GLIAC/GLVC Classic games with a knee injury and remains out indefinitely ................... Four different players have led the Bulldogs in scoring in eight games this season ............... Debbie Killips has recorded at least six rebounds in six-straight games ........ Jennifer Brogger registered her 150th career rebound against Bellarmine and currently has 168 career boards ............. Killips grabbed her 300th career rebound against St. Joseph's and presently has 305 career rebounds ....... Sophomore guard Michelle Welch tallied her 50th career point against St. Francis (Ind.) University (Dec. 15) ............. Lucy DeMartin presently has 89 career rebounds and needs 11 more to notch her 100th career rebound ......... Killips has five double-figure scoring games this year .......... The Bulldogs are 3-1 at home this season and had won six-straight home games dating back to last season prior to the Bellarmine loss.

Looking Ahead - Ferris State returns to GLIAC action as the Bulldogs travel to Hillsdale College to face the Chargers Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. (EST). FSU will face Wayne State University Saturday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. (EST) in Detroit, Mich.

Last Season - Ferris State finished the 2000-01 campaign with a 16-11 overall mark, which included a third-place 11-7 GLIAC North Division finish. The Bulldogs lost to Hillsdale 85-78 (2OT-3/1/00) in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals held at the DeltaPlex in Grand Rapids, Mich.
