Dec. 17: Bulldogs Win Third-Straight Game

FSU Basketball at a Glance - The Ferris State University women's basketball team will host the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)/Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Classic this Wednesday-Thursday (Dec. 19-20) at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. FSU will face the Bellarmine (Ky.) University Knights this Wednesday (Dec. 19) at 7 p.m. (EST) and the St. Joseph's (Ind.) College Pumas this Thursday (Dec. 20) at 7 p.m. (EST).

Last Week - Ferris State won its third-consecutive contest last Saturday (Dec. 15) as the Bulldogs defeated the University of St. Francis (Ind.) Cougars 72-67 at the Hutzell Athletic Center in Fort Wayne, Ind. Senior point guard Debbie Killips led FSU with 19 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Sophomore forward Jennifer Brogger totaled 15 points, sophomore guard Lucy DeMartin scored 13 points and sophomore center Bridget Horwitz added 12 points and 13 rebounds. The Bulldogs are currently 4-2 overall and 2-1 in GLIAC action.

Killips Nearing the Top - Debbie Killips presently has 249 career steals and is four steals away from tying FSU's career steals leader Valerie Scott (253; 1994-97). A second-team 2000-01 All-GLIAC North Division pick, Killips currently has 317 career assists and is 47 assists away from Monta Ware (364; 1979-83), who is fourth on FSU's career assists chart.

Killips has made 68 career three-point field goals to date and tied Carrie Roys (68; 1996-00) for sixth place on the all-time FSU chart with two three-point field goals versus St. Francis. A 2001-02 FSU captain, Killips presently ranks as FSU's leading scorer (14.2 points per game). Killips currently ranks eighth in career field goal percentage (.471; 263-558), fourth in career three-point field goal percentage (.370; 68-184) and fifth in career free throw percentage (.780; 131-168) at Ferris State.

Brogger Nearing List - Jennifer Brogger has made 56 career three-point field goals to date and needs three more to tie Ann Rienstra (59; 1986-89) for 10th place on the all-time FSU chart. The 5-9 Brogger has registered three double-figure scoring outings this season and presently ranks as FSU's fourth-leading scorer (9.7 ppg). Brogger currently ranks ninth on FSU's career three-point field goal percentage chart (.333; 56-168). She has scored 362 career points to date and and is 38 points away from recording her 400th career point. Brogger has reached double-figures (scoring) in two of the past three outings.

Horwitz Playing Well - Bridget Horwitz currently has 23 career blocks and needs eight more to tie Darlene Vondrasek (31; 1989-93) for eighth place on the FSU career blocks list. Horwitz has registered five double-figure scoring games and three double-double (points and rebounds) outings this season. The 6-2 Horwitz is currently FSU's leading rebounder (9.3 rebounds per game) and third-leading scorer (12.2 ppg). She has scored 270 career points to date and needs 30 more to register her 300th career point.

Head Coach Tracey Fisk - Tracey Fisk has a current career coaching record of 60-30 (.667) in her fourth season at Ferris State. A 1996 graduate of Western Michigan, Fisk guided Ferris State to a 22-7 mark and the school's first NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance during the 2000-01 campaign. Prior to FSU, Fisk spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Lake Michigan College (1994-97) and one season at the University of Indianapolis (1997-98).

Bulldog Bites - Lucy DeMartin has posted five-consecutive double-figure scoring games and is FSU's second-leading scorer (14.0 ppg) to date ......... Sophomore forward Molly Potvin notched her 100th career point against St. Francis last Saturday ........... Four different players have led the Bulldogs in scoring in six games this season ........ Debbie Killips has recorded at least seven rebounds in four-straight games ........ Jennifer Brogger currently has 147 career rebounds and needs three more to register her 150th career rebound ............. DeMartin currently has 48 career steals and is two shy of registering her 50th career steal ........ Killips has 290 career rebounds to date and is 10 away from notching her 300th career rebound ....... Sophomore forward Stephanie Benear presently has 79 career points and needs 21 more to record her 100th career point.

Against This Week's Foes - Ferris State has never defeated St. Joseph's (Ind.) or Bellarmine (Ky.) entering this week's GLIAC/GLVC Classic. The Bulldogs are 0-1 all-time against Bellarmine heading into this Wednesday night's contest. In the only series meeting between the two schools (1984-85), the Knights pulled out an 81-75 win at the Wright State University Invitational in Dayton, Ohio. FSU has an 0-2 series record versus the Pumas. St. Joseph's defeated the Bulldogs 73-63 in Big Rapids during the 1990-91 season and captured a 71-42 decision the following season (1991-92) at the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougar Classic. Head coach Tracey Fisk has never faced either school. The Knights are presently 7-1 overall and have won five consecutive games. St. Joseph's enters this Wednesday's classic opener against Lake Superior State University with a 4-5 overall mark.

Tough Place to Play - Ferris State is presently 21-2 (.913) overall in three seasons of action at Jim Wink Arena. The 2,400-seat facility replaced the Old Jim Wink Arena, which was converted into the current Student Recreation Center after the 1997-98 campaign. The Bulldogs compiled a 127-125 overall mark in 24 seasons of action at the Old Jim Wink Arena (1974-98). FSU won its first 14 games in the new arena and was 9-0 at home during the inaugural 1999-2000 campaign. The Bulldogs are 2-0 at home this season.

Ticket Prices - Individual game tickets to all FSU home basketball games can be obtained at the door or by calling the Bulldog ticket office at (231) 591-2888. Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $3. A family pass can be purchased for $10. Ferris State faculty/staff ticket prices are $4. Special group pricing is available for groups of 20 or more.

Up Next - Ferris State will host the Northern Kentucky University Norse in a non-conference contest Saturday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. (EST) at Jim Wink Arena. The Bulldogs and the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles will square off Sunday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. (EST) at Jim Wink Arena. Both NKU and USI are GLVC members.
