FSU Drops League Road Game As Dragons Notch First GLIAC Win

Tiffin University picked up its first-ever Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's basketball victory with an 85-68 triumph over the Ferris State Bulldogs Saturday (Dec. 6) afternoon at TU's Gillmor Center in Tiffin, Ohio.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 5-0 advantage as the contest was started on time with only two officials present due to travel problems. However, the Dragons regrouped and connected on eight three-pointers in the first half en route to a 10-point halftime lead in the second-ever series' matchup between the two schools.
FSU shot 46% compared to only 36% for the Dragons in the first half, but the Bulldogs also had 17 turnovers in the initial period.
FSU finished the contest with three players in double-figure scoring. Sophomore forward Tiara Adams led the Bulldogs with 13 points, senior forward Caitlin Hutchison poured in 12 points and sophomore guard Becci Houdek finished with 10 points.
Megan Fletcher paced the Dragons with a game-high 31 points nand also had nine rebounds with eight steals. Leanne Lucius totaled 18 points and Mandy Jaeb netted 13 points. Lucius had 15 points in the opening half on five three-pointers.
The Bulldogs dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC with the loss while the Dragons improved to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
FSU turned the ball over 24 times in the contest and the Dragons connected on 10-of-20 (50.0%) three-pointers along with 23-of-29 (79.3%) free throws. Ferris shot 44% for the game with the Dragons hitting 44% of their shots as well. FSU did own a 43-33 rebounding edge.
Ferris State returns home for a rare weekend doubleheader on back-to-back days next weekend. FSU hosts Hillsdale on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. (EST) before facing Findlay Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. (EST). Both games will take place in FSU's Jim Wink Arena and are GLIAC encounters at Big Rapids, Mich.
