Four Ferris State University student-athletes have attained All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) basketball kudos for the 2008-09 season as the league announced its respective all-conference teams on Thursday (March 5) evening.
The women's awards were presented in conjunction with the GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament at Houghton, Mich., while the men's honorees were announced at the GLIAC Men's Basketball Tournament in Findlay, Ohio.
Sophomore forward/center Justin Keenan (Grand Rapids/Ottawa Hills) of the men's squad attained All-GLIAC First Team honors for the 2008-09 campaign in voting conducted by the conference's head coaches. He was one of five players named to the GLIAC North Division First Team.
Meanwhile, Bulldog sophomore guard Darien Gay (Detroit/Henry Ford) was recognized as an All-GLIAC North Division Second Team selection.
The FSU women's squad also had a second team all-conference pick in senior guard Teghan Thelen (Pewamo/Westphalia) in the North Division.
Finally, women's basketball senior forward/center Ashley Fleming (Posen/Rogers City) earned GLIAC North Division All-Defensive Team honors.
This year's recognition represented the first time all four players have attained GLIAC postseason accolades.
The Bulldog men's squad finished the year with a 14-14 overall record after falling in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals by a 67-49 count at rival Grand Valley State on Tuesday (March 3) evening in Allendale, Mich.
The FSU women, who are currently 13-14 overall this season, will take on nationally-ranked Michigan Tech in Friday's (March 6) GLIAC Tournament Semifinals at Houghton, Mich.
