With the cancellation of the women's contest, there will now only be a single game on Tuesday night rather than a doubleheader as the Bulldog men's team faces longtime West Michigan rival Calvin College with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (EST) as scheduled inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich. Tickets will be sold at the door prior to the contest.
The women's basketball game was cancelled due to the closure of the Hope College campus in Holland (Mich.) because of a growing outbreak of a Noro-like-virus within the college community. Hope College, in consultation with officials from the Ottawa County Health Department, has extended the mandatory closure of the college until at least Wednesday morning. All college events at Hope through at least Tuesday were cancelled, including practices and games of the college's athletic teams.
The exhibition against Hope was the lone scheduled preseason tilt for the Bulldog women's basketball team, which wrapped up the 2007-08 season with a 17-12 overall record and placed tied for third in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division with a 11-7 league mark.
By virtue of the cancellation, the Ferris women's team will now officially start its season this weekend (Nov. 15-16) in the Kentucky Wesleyan Lady Panther Classic at Owensboro, Ky. FSU squares off against host Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday (Nov. 15) at 4:15 p.m. (EST) and will then take on Indianapolis Sunday (Nov. 16) in a 2 p.m. (EST) contest.
