FERRIS WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ADDS AMY JOOSTBERNS

Prep Forward Joins Bulldogs' 2007-08 Recruiting Class

The Ferris State University women’s basketball team has added yet another prep recruit to its 2007-08 recruiting class with the addition of forward Amy Joostberns (Nashville/Lakewood). The announcement was made today (Feb. 7) by ninth-year FSU women’s basketball head coach Tracey Bloodworth-Fisk.

Amy Joostberns The 5-10 Joostberns recently completed her prep senior campaign this past fall for Lakewood High School in Lake Odessa, Mich. The honorable mention all-state honoree averaged 10.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 51% from the floor during the 2006 season.

“Amy’s a beast inside who tracks the ball extremely well and is determined to go get it,” said Bloodworth-Fisk. “She will have little trouble adjusting to the collegiate level on the defensive end because she has the physical stature, heart and guts to get the job done.

“She also possesses versatile skills on the offensive end and we’re excited about what she’ll bring to our program.”

The two-time first team all-county selection attained team Most Valuable Player Award accolades while serving as team captain in her senior season. She also was named honorary captain of the All-Capital Area Activities Conference Team following her final campaign under head coach Kate Prominski.

A four-year letterwinner, Joostberns twice received conference all-academic award kudos. She has also competed in both volleyball along with track and field on the prep level.

“We expect Amy to make an impact in our program for the next four years,” Bloodworth-Fisk said.

The daughter of Tony and Brenda Joostberns, Amy plans to major in marketing at Ferris State. She joins prep guards Katie Mount (Waterford/Mott) and Becci Houdek (Canton) as members of the Bulldogs’ current recruiting class to date.

The Bulldog women’s basketball team, which has won seven of its last eight outings to date, hosts Michigan Tech Thursday, Feb. 8, in a 6 p.m. (EST) Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game at FSU’s Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. FSU is presently 15-6 overall and 9-4 in conference play this season.
