Ferris Women's Basketball Squad To Face Hillsdale Friday In Erie
Ticket information and media coverage for the Ferris State University women's basketball squad's semifinal-round game against Hillsdale on Friday (March 2) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament have been made available.
The second-seeded Bulldogs and third-seeded Chargers will square off in the second women's semifinal at 8 p.m. (EST) inside Gannon University's Hammermill Center at Erie, Pa. Host and top-seeded GU will meet fourth-seeded Michigan Tech in the first game at 6 p.m. (EST).
Saturday's (March 3) championship game for the women tips off at 7 p.m. (EST). The eventual tournament champion will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournaments slated for March 9-12 at a site to be determined. Eight teams, including six at-large squads, will participate in the regional with the official announcement set to be released late Sunday (March 4) evening.
Tickets for semifinals/finals may be purchased at the door one hour prior to the start of each session. Plush seat tickets are $7 while general admission tickets are $5 and student tickets $2 per session. GLIAC guidelines do not permit any complimentary tickets to be issued. Local radio station News Talk 1460 AM (WBRN) will broadcast Friday's contest and Saturday's championship game if necessary live from GU's Hammermill Center in Erie. Rob Bentley will provide the play-by-play coverage. The games are also tentatively slated to be webcast at www.ferris.edu/sports.
In addition, Gannon University will offer live internet statistics and live audio for each tournament game at www.gannon.edu/sports. A live video and audio webcast for all three games are also slated to be available at a charge of $6 per contest through Penn Atlantic via the GLIAC website at www.gliac.org.
Ferris State, which is currently 21-7 overall this campaign, advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals with a 91-79 quarterfinal-round win over Lake Superior State Tuesday (Feb. 27) in FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich.
The Bulldogs are midst their eighth-straight and ninth overall conference tournament appearance. Ferris earned tournament runner-up honors in 1999-00 and 2003-04.
Hillsdale enters Friday's outing with a 18-8 overall record and defeated FSU 72-67 earlier this season (1/6/07) at Big Rapids. Ferris holds a 32-17 series edge entering Friday’s 50th encounter and has won six of the last 11 series’ matchups overall.
