Three Players Attain Kudos For Performance; One Named To All-Tourney Team

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) presented its annual postseason awards in conjunction with the respective league men's and women's tournaments last Thursday (March 1). The men's awards were handed out at the conference postseason tournament in Findlay, Ohio, while the women's award winners were recognized at the GLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament in Erie, Pa.

Junior forward Rachel Folcik (Powers/Carney-Nadeau) claimed All-GLIAC North Division First Team accolades for the women's team along with being named to the GLIAC North Division All-Defensive Team. The 6-1 Folcik, who earned the division's Player of the Week Award honor six of the final nine times it was handed out this campaign, was one of three North Division players to pick up both first team and all-defensive team laurels.

Folcik was joined in the awards ceremony by Bulldog senior guard Kristin Reinhart (East Lansing), who attained GLIAC North Division Second Team kudos for the third consecutive season.

The GLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year award was presented to Gannon senior Christina Jackson, Michigan Tech's Katie Wysocky garnered GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors and head coach Cleve Wright of Gannon was chosen as the league's Coach of the Year in voting conducted by the conference's 13 head coaches.

In the men's division, Bulldog senior forward Terrance Shaw (Saginaw/Bridgeport) received GLIAC North Division Second Team recognition for the second-straight year. Northern Michigan's Ricky Volcy claimed the GLIAC Player of the Year Award while Findlay freshman Marcus Parker was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Findlay head coach Ron Niekamp picked up league Coach of the Year recognition for the third-straight year in voting by the league head coaches.

Also, FSU women's basketball senior forward Audrey Thwing (Davison) picked up GLIAC All-Tournament Team accolades last weekend after scoring a personal career-high 24 points in the Bulldogs' narrow 90-87 overtime loss to Hillsdale Friday (March 2) in the league tournament semifinals at Erie.

The Ferris men's basketball team registered its fourth-straight GLIAC Tournament appearances this season and concluded the year with a 10-18 overall record. The Bulldogs placed tied for third in the GLIAC North Divsion standings with a 8-10 league slate this campaign.

The Bulldog women's basketball squad, which is presently 21-8 overall this year, received its third-ever NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament berth and will take on Northern Kentucky in the regional quarterfinal round Friday, March 9, starting at 3:30 p.m. (EST) in Lewis University's Neil Carey Arena at Romeoville, Ill.
