The Ferris State University men's basketball program has received the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division Player of the Week Award for the fifth time this season as senior guard Dennis Springs (Toledo, Ohio/Scott) was honored as the most recent winner in an announcement made Monday (Feb. 6) by the league office.

Springs led the first-place Bulldogs to two league victories last week as he averaged 22.5 points, eight assists and two steals per outing. The 5-6 Springs scored a team-best 26 points and dished out eight assists while converting 10-of-13 (.769) field goal attempts in Saturday's (Feb. 4) 97-77 GLIAC road triumph at Northwood. He added a team-high 19 points and eight assists in Thursday's (Feb. 2) 77-71 conference home win over Saginaw Valley State at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Springs shot 58.6% (17-29) from the floor in the two-game stretch.

Springs’ current career average of 6.3 assists per game ranks tied for 15th place all-time in NCAA Division II history and is the GLIAC’s top career performance average for all games played. He has 672 career assists to date and is two shy of moving into 20th place on the all-time NCAA Division II assists leaders list.

A 2004-05 All-GLIAC Second Team honoree, Springs attained NCAA-II Great Lakes Region All-Tournament Team kudos along with GLIAC North Division All-Defensive Team honors as FSU advanced to the NCAA-II Sweet Sixteen during the 2004-05 campaign. He previously was both a second-team All-GLIAC North Division and GLIAC All-Defensive Team pick during the 2003-04 campaign. Springs also set a school single-season record with 213 assists last year.

This week's selection marks the third time this season and fourth time in his career Springs has received the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honor. He previously was honored both Nov. 22 and Dec. 5 along with being recognized once during the 2003-04 campaign (March 1).

Ferris has received the weekly award five of the nine times it has been announced this season as junior forward Terrance Shaw (Saginaw/Bridgeport) and senior guard Antwuan Holt (Okemos) claimed the distinction Dec. 12 and Jan. 9, respectively, for FSU.

The Ferris State men’s basketball team, which presently is 14-8 overall and holds a first-place 11-2 mark in the GLIAC North Division, travels to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for two games this weekend (Feb. 9 & 11). The trip opens Thursday, Feb. 9, as the Bulldogs visit Michigan Tech for a 7:30 p.m. (EST) league encounter in Houghton, Mich. FSU will then square off against Northern Michigan Saturday, Feb. 11, in a 1 p.m. (EST) conference tilt at Marquette, Mich.
