NCAA DIVISION II SELECTION SHOW TO AIR THIS SUNDAY
Bulldogs Hoping To Receive Second-Straight Bid To NCAA Tourney
The NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament Selection Show will air live via satellite this Sunday night (March 5).
The 30-minute selection show of the 64-team field and regional championship sites will be broadcast live on the Altitude Sports and Entertainment Channel beginning at 10:30 p.m. (EST) following the Division II women's selection show starting at 10 p.m. (EST). Both shows will be produced by NCAA Productions from Indianapolis.
Altitude Sports and Entertainment can be found on DirecTV Channel 644 or Dish Network Channel 410. Selected local and regional stations, including Comcast Local in Michigan, Cox Sports Television, Cox Sports New England, QNI Broadcast Group and Time Warner Charlotte, are also scheduled to air the selection show live. In addition, the offical NCAA Championships website (www.ncaasports.com) will provide live audio and video streaming of the show via the internet. Both the 64-team men's and women's brackets will be posted at the site immediately after each selection show.
The Bulldog men's basketball team will square off against archrival Grand Valley State in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship Game Saturday, March 4, in GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich. The contest is set to tipoff at 8 p.m. (EST).
Saturday's eventual league tournament champion receives the GLIAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional slated for March 11-14 at a site to be determined. Eight regional teams, including six at-large squads, will participate in the national tournament. The Bulldogs, who are ranked ninth in the latest (March 1) NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Rankings, figure to be among the team's at least considered for the remaining at-large bids regardless of Saturday's outcome.
Ferris State presently holds an 18-11 overall this campaign following Friday's (March 3) 64-62 triumph over second-seeded and nationally eighth-ranked Findlay in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals at Allendale.
FSU has made seven previous NCAA-II National Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight showing in 1988-89. Ferris capped off a banner 2004-05 season with a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament (March 12-15) held in Findlay, Ohio. The Bulldogs reached the regional championship game for only the third time in school history last season and fell one game shy of advancing to the NCAA-II Elite Eight for the second time ever.
