GLIAC TOURNEY MATCHUPS SET FOR FERRIS BASKETBALL TEAMS
Bulldog Men To Host Tourney Quarterfinal Contest Feb. 28 At Jim Wink Arena
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament quarterfinal-round matchups have been set for the Ferris State University men's and women's basketball teams.
The Bulldog men will host Northern Michigan in the quarterfinal round Tuesday, Feb. 28, in FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. (EST). Tickets for the quarterfinal round will be sold at the door beginning one hour prior to game time. Tickets are $5 for adult general admission and $2 for students with identification. Children five years of age and younger will be admitted free of charge.
The Bulldog women's basketball team must travel to archrival Grand Valley State for the second time in four days for Tuesday's (Feb. 28) quarterfinal with tipoff set for 6 p.m. (EST) inside GVSU's Fieldhouse Arena at Allendale, Mich. The Lakers defeated the Bulldogs in Saturday's (Feb. 25) regular-season finale 69-53 in Allendale.
The quarterfinal-round winners will advance to the GLIAC Tournament semifinals and finals set for Friday and Saturday, March 3-4, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
The winner of both the men's and women's GLIAC Tournaments receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament slated to be held March 10-13 (women) and March 11-14 (men) at locations yet to be determined.
The Bulldog men, who defeated NMU 103-88 in the quarterfinal round at Wink Arena last campaign, are 5-9 all-time in seven previous tournament appearances. Ferris captured the 1997-98 league tourney title and will be making its third consecutive appearance in the tournament.
Ferris has posted a 5-7 overall record in seven previous league women's basketball tournament appearances. FSU, which will be making its seventh-straight women's berth in the GLIAC Tournament, fell last year to Ashland 71-70 in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals (3/1/05) at Ashland, Ohio.
The Bulldog men's basketball team dropped to 16-11 overall and concluded league play with a second-place tying 13-5 mark after Saturday's (Feb. 25) 90-55 setback at GVSU. The women's team enters postseason play with an 18-9 overall mark and placed tied for third in the GLIAC North Division with a 12-6 conference regular-season record.
