Senior guard Carlton Epps (Benton Harbor) of the 2004-05 Ferris State men's basketball team has been named to the Daktronics All-Great Lakes Region First Team in an announcement made today (March 9).

Epps joined Michigan Tech's Josh Buettner and Geoff Husted of Gannon as first-team all-region representatives from a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC)-member institution. The other selections included Daktronics Great Lakes Region Player of the Year David Logan of Indianapolis along with Southern Indiana's Randy Holbrook. The first-team members are forwarded along to the national ballot and now eligible for All-America recognition.

The 6-2 Epps previously attained GLIAC North Division First-Team kudos for the second consecutive campaign. He also was chosen to the league's North Division All-Defensive Team as a repeat honoree. He currently ranks third among the league leaders in scoring (19.3 ppg) and is the conference's top performer in steals (3.30 spg), free throw percentage (.871) and made three-point field goals (89) this season.

Epps also received GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors three times this year and presently is listed on the school's top 10 all-time charts in scoring (1,483), three-pointers (227), three-point percentage (.420), free throw percentage (.813), steals (268), assists (238) and blocked shots (52). The Benton Harbor native has reached double-figure scoring in 28 of his last 29 contests dating back to last campaign. He is the first Bulldog player to receive All-Region accolades since Adam Anderson was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region Second Team in 2002-03.

Ferris State, which is presently 22-6 overall this season, is the third seed for this weekend's NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Tournament and will face sixth-seeded Indianapolis (19-9) in Saturday's first regional quarterfinal round contest with tipoff set for 12 p.m. (EST) at Croy Gymnasium in Findlay, Ohio. The University of Findlay earned the top seed and will serve as the tournament host.

The Daktronics team is voted on by the sports information directors of the region's member institutions and sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
