Shaw, a 6-5 forward, averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per game while leading Bridgeport High School to a 14-7 overall record and a district semifinal finish as a senior during the 2002-03 campaign. He attained first-team 2002-03 Associated Press Class B All-State recognition along with second-team honors from the Detroit News and fourth-team Detroit Free Press accolades. Shaw was a third-team MichiganPreps.com Class B All-State pick this campaign.
“Terrance is a versatile athlete who will be a great addition to our program,” Sall said. “He has the ability to change the course of a game with his outstanding jumping ability. He also is a solid finisher around the basket and should make a significant contribution for us in the years ahead.”
A two-time (2002-03) Saginaw News Class B First-Team All-Area honoree, Shaw also received first-team 2002-03 Tri-Valley Conference East Division kudos for the second consecutive campaign. The two-year letterwinner was ranked as one of the Detroit Free Press’ top 100 prep basketball prospects prior to the start of the 2002-03 season after guiding the Bearcats to a district championship under head coach Tim Crawford in 2001-02.
“Terrance had an outstanding high school career and we’re expecting him to do well at Ferris State,” said Sall. “He’s a good rebounder who will be able to play both the small and power forward positions in our lineup.”
Shaw, who plans to major in mechanical engineering, also competed in track and field at Bridgeport. The son of Kathy Shaw, Terrance joins forward/center Adam Veltkamp (Cedar Springs) and guard C.J. Van Wieren (Holland/West Ottawa) as the Bulldogs’ 2003-04 men’s basketball recruits to date.
Ferris posted an 11-15 overall record and a fourth-place 7-11 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division finish this campaign. The Bulldogs' overall record and league finish were their best since compiling a 21-12 mark and a fourth-place 10-8 league ledger during the 1997-98 season.
