Bulldogs Improve to 1-2 Overall

FSU Basketball at a Glance - The Ferris State University men's basketball team will host the Aquinas College Saints this Tuesday (Nov. 27) at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. (EST). FSU will then open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action this Thursday (Nov. 29) at the University of Findlay Oilers. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (EST). The Bulldogs close out this week traveling to Grand Rapids, Mich., this Saturday (Dec. 1) for a 3 p.m. (EST) non-conference contest versus the Calvin College Knights. Entering the week, Aquinas is 3-5 overall, Findlay has a 3-0 mark and Calvin is 4-1.

Last Week - Ferris State picked up its first victory of the 2001-02 campaign last Tuesday (Nov. 20) as the Bulldogs defeated Olivet College 79-59 in their home opener at Jim Wink Arena. Senior co-captain Matt Miller and freshman guard Corey Epps scored 15 points apiece to lead the Bulldogs past the Comets. Senior Adam Anderson added 14 points in the win. FSU is currently 1-2 overall.

FSU Notches First Win Of Season - Forward Matt Miller scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed a personal-best nine rebounds to lead FSU past Olivet 79-59 in the 24th series meeting between the two teams last Tuesday. Corey Epps recorded his first career double-figure scoring performance with 15 points. FSU jumped out to a seven-point halftime advantage (37-30) and outscored the Comets 42-29 in the second period to notch the win. Junior point guard Brian Monahan scored eight points, had a career-high nine rebounds and dished out a personal-best eight assists in the victory. Sophomore Johnathan Bowers added 11 points in the win. The win over Olivet was FSU's third-straight versus the Comets. Prior to last Tuesday's game, the two teams last met during the 1959-60 season. FSU improved to 13-11 all-time against Olivet with the win.

Trio Leading the Way - Center Adam Anderson, forward Johnathan Bowers and sophomore Marcus Wallace all have double-figure scoring averages after three games. The 6-10 Anderson is FSU's leading scorer at 15.3 points per game (ppg). A 6-9 forward, Bowers is averaging 14.7 ppg and is FSU's leading rebounder at 9.3 rebounds per game. Wallace is averaging 13.3 ppg. Both Anderson and Bowers have scored in double-figures in all three games. Wallace scored a career-high 25 points against Christian Brothers University (Tenn.) at the John L. Smith/Lions Club Classic (Nov. 17) at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Ky.

Streak Still Alive - Adam Anderson has scored 10 points or more in 36 of his past 37 career outings, including each of his previous 30 games. A 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America selection, Anderson scored 14 points and had four rebounds in the win over Olivet. Anderson, the GLIAC's 2000-01 leading scorer (21.3 ppg), currently has made 326 career free throws and needs six more to move into an eighth-place tie on the all-time Ferris State chart.

Head Coach Edgar Wilson - Now in his sixth season at the helm, head coach Edgar Wilson has a current career coaching record of 53-86 (.381). A 1978 graduate of Michigan State, Wilson guided the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Tournament championship and a NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance (1997-98). Wilson previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Central Michigan (1993-1996) and five seasons as an assistant at Michigan State (1978-83).

Bulldog Bites - Seniors Adam Anderson and Matt Miller are FSU's 2001-02 team captains ....... Sophomore Marcus Wallace scored his 300th career point and grabbed his 100th career rebound in the win over Olivet ........... FSU has tied or outscored all three of its opponents in the first half this season .......... Junior Brian Monahan is a single point away from scoring his 300th career point ......... Anderson has scored 1,144 career points and is 17 points away from moving into 16th place on the FSU career scoring chart. He has 458 career rebounds and needs 42 more to collect his 500th career rebound. He is three rebounds away from moving into 18th place on the school rebounding chart ............... Johnathan Bowers scored his 100th career field goal in the win over Olivet. Bowers has 29 career blocks and is one away from moving into 10th place on FSU's career chart ............ Miller is 25 points shy of scoring his 300th career point ....... The 6-8 Miller grabbed his 200th career rebound in the win over Olivet ............. Anderson has reached double-figures in scoring 56 times in 79 career games ......... Anderson has posted nine career double-doubles (points and rebounds).

Against This Week's Opponents - Ferris State and Aquinas will square off for the 69th time this Tuesday night. The Bulldogs own a 54-14 advantage in the all-time series, which began during the 1940-41 campaign. FSU has won eight of the past nine meetings. The two teams last met during the 1993-94 campaign when FSU defeated the Saints 100-80 at the Calvin College Thanksgiving Classic in Grand Rapids, Mich. Ferris State is 2-4 all-time versus Findlay. The Oilers claimed an 85-61 victory in Big Rapids last season and have won four-straight series meetings. The Bulldogs are 14-63 all-time versus Calvin, but have won two of the past three meetings. In the last series meeting, Calvin won 90-77 in Big Rapids on Nov. 30, 1999. FSU head coach Edgar Wilson is 0-4 versus Findlay and 2-1 against Calvin.

Anderson Garners Honors - Senior center Adam Anderson has been named to the 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America team and the 2001-02 Street and Smith's NCAA Division II Preseason Honorable Mention All-America squad. A 2000-01 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region pick, Anderson compiled FSU's ninth-best scoring output (555 points) last season.

Ticket Prices - Individual game tickets to all FSU home basketball games can be obtained at the door or by calling the Bulldog ticket office at (231) 591-2888. Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $3. A family pass can be purchased for $10. Ferris State faculty/staff ticket prices are $4. Special group pricing is available for groups of 20 or more.

Next Week - Ferris State will host Gannon University and Mercyhurst College in GLIAC action at Jim Wink Arena. Thursday night's (Dec. 6) contest versus Gannon is at 8 p.m. (EST) while Saturday's (Dec. 8) game against Mercyhurst tips off at 3 p.m. (EST).
