Jan. 8: Bulldogs Drop Two Conference Games

FSU Basketball at a Glance - The Ferris State University men's basketball team will face the Ashland (Ohio) University Eagles this Saturday (Jan. 12) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. (EST). The Bulldogs are currently 3-10 overall and 0-5 in conference action.

Last Week - Ferris State lost two conference road games last weekend (Jan. 3 and 5). FSU fell 94-57 last Thursday (Jan. 3) against the Hillsdale College Chargers at HC's Jessie Phillips Arena in Hillsdale, Mich. The Bulldogs then dropped a 92-79 decision versus the Wayne State University Warriors last Saturday (Jan. 5) at WSU's Matthaei Complex in Detroit, Mich. Ferris State has won two of its past four contests to date.

Anderson Will Miss Season - Senior center Adam Anderson, a 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America selection, will miss the remainder of the 2001-02 campaign and apply for a medical redshirt season. A 2001-02 FSU co-captain, Anderson hasn't played in the past 10 games due to a bone bruise injury (knee) suffered in a 79-59 non-conference win against Olivet College (Nov. 20) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

Prior to his injury, Anderson had played in three contests and was averaging 15.3 points per game (ppg) and 5.3 rebounds per game (rpg). A 2000-01 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region selection and first-team 2000-01 All-GLIAC North Division pick, Anderson has scored 1,144 career points to date and presently ranks 17th on the school's career scoring chart. The 6-10 Anderson notched FSU's ninth best single-season scoring output (555 points) last year.

The GLIAC's 2000-01 leading scorer (21.3 ppg), Anderson currently ranks as Ferris' career blocks leader (102). He established FSU single-season records in made free throws (179-276) and blocks (50) during the 2000-01 season.

Wallace Leads FSU - Sophomore guard Marcus Wallace notched his 11th double-figure scoring performance of the season as he totaled a game high 22 points versus Wayne State. Wallace sank a personal best five-of-nine three-point attempts against the Warriors and ranks as FSU's leading scorer (17.5 ppg) to date. The 6-3 Wallace presently has 143 career rebounds and is seven shy of recording his 150th career rebound. Wallace has been FSU's leading scorer in seven games this campaign, including six of the last nine outings. He currently has scored 490 career points and needs 10 more to register his 500th career point.

Guernsey Playing Well - Junior forward Jeff Guernsey has attained double-figure scoring in three of the last four contests. The 6-5 Guernsey scored 11 points at Wayne State and added 10 points at Hillsdale. He scored his 100th career point and grabbed his 75th career rebound against the Chargers. Guernsey presently has scored 120 career points and registered 78 career rebounds in 45 career outings. He is averaging 4.8 ppg and 2.3 rpg per game in 12 appearances this season.

Head Coach Edgar Wilson - Now in his sixth season at the helm, head coach Edgar Wilson has a current career coaching record of 55-94 (.369). A 1978 graduate of Michigan State, Wilson guided the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Tournament championship and a NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance (1997-98). Wilson previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Central Michigan (1993-1996) and five seasons as an assistant at Michigan State (1978-83).

Bulldog Bites - Junior guard Brian Monahan dished out his 150th career assist versus Hillsdale and presently has 153 career assists ........... Sophomore forward Nathan Wruble currently has scored 49 career points and is one point away from scoring his 50th career point .......... FSU has lost five consecutive series meetings against Wayne State .......... Monahan has recorded two consecutive double-figure scoring games to date .......... Junior forward Doug Isanhart tied a personal best with two blocked shots against the Chargers .......... Senior forward Matt Miller tallied his fifth double-figure scoring outing of the season at Wayne State ............. Miller grabbed his 250th career rebound at Hillsdale and presently has 254 career rebounds ............ Monahan currently has 147 career rebounds and needs three more to register his 150th career rebound. He presently has 357 career points and is 43 points shy of compiling his 400th career point.

Epps Posting Solid Numbers - Freshman guard Carlton Epps notched his eighth double-figure scoring performance of the year against Wayne State, scoring 12 points. Epps presently has totaled 139 career points and is 11 points shy of scoring his 150th career point. He has reached double-figures (scoring) in seven of the last 10 games and has been FSU's rebounding leader three times in his previous six appearances. The 6-2 Epps currently ranks as FSU's fourth-leading scorer (10.7 ppg) and second-leading rebounder (5.6 rpg) this campaign.

At Jim Wink Arena - Ferris State is presently 8-22 (.267) overall in three seasons of action at Jim Wink Arena. The 2,400-seat facility replaced the Old Jim Wink Arena, which was converted into the current Student Recreation Center after the 1997-98 season. FSU is currently 1-4 at home this season and posted its only home win of the year in a 79-59 non-conference victory against the Olivet (Mich.) College Comets (Nov. 20).

Against Ashland University - Saturday's contest marks the ninth series meeting against Ashland. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 5-3 and have won four of the last six series contests. In the last series meeting (Dec. 2, 2000), Ashland defeated FSU 70-58 at FSU's Jim Wink Arena. Ferris State head coach Edgar Wilson has a current career coaching record of 4-2 versus Ashland. The Eagles are 10-4 overall and 3-2 in league play heading into this Thursday night's (Jan. 10) conference game at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Junior guard Isaac Kincaid is currently AU's season scoring leader (19.3 ppg). Ashland has won five of its last six contests to date.

Up Next - Ferris State will face the Northwood University Timberwolves next Thursday (Jan. 17) at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at NU's Bennett Sports Center in Midland, Mich.
