Feb. 13: FSU Searching For First GLIAC Win

FSU Basketball At A Glance - The Ferris State University men's basketball team will visit the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals this Saturday (Feb. 16) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest at SVSU's O'Neill Arena in University Center, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. (EST).

A Look Back - Ferris State dropped a 78-75 league decision this past Monday (Feb. 11) to the Grand Valley State University Lakers at GVSU's Fieldhouse in Allendale, Mich. The Bulldogs lost a 75-66 conference contest against the Northwood University Timberwolves last Saturday (Feb. 9) in FSU's Jim Wink Arena at Big Rapids, Mich. FSU also suffered a 91-68 GLIAC setback versus the Lake Superior State University Lakers last Thursday (Feb. 7) at LSSU's Bud Cooper Gymnasium in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Ferris, which is midst a 12-game losing streak, is presently 3-20 overall and 0-15 in conference action.

Wallace Leading FSU Attack - Sophomore guard Marcus Wallace registered a game-high 35 points against Northwood. Wallace has attained double-figure scoring in 18 of his last 20 appearances and has been Ferris' leading scorer in 14 of the last 19 outings to date. He currently has tallied 20 double-digit scoring performances and 13 20-plus point games this campaign.

The 6-3 Wallace presently has 198 career rebounds and needs two more to notch his 200th career rebound. He dished out his 100th career assist versus Northwood and currently has 106 career assists.

Wallace has made 54 three-point field goals to date this season and is two shy of tying Randy Prince (56; 1995-96) for sixth place on the school's single-season chart. He leads the Bulldogs in scoring (20.0 ppg), made free throws (83-117; .709) and three-point field goals (54-161; .335) to date this campaign. Wallace has compiled 461 points this season and needs 96 more to tie Clarence Carlisle (557; 1970-71) for ninth place on the school's single-season chart.

Playing Like A Veteran - Freshman guard Carlton Epps totaled a team-high 20 points while tallying his 11th double-figure scoring outing this season at Grand Valley State. The 6-2 Epps grabbed his 100th career rebound against the Timberwolves and currently has 106 career boards. He presently has 48 steals this campaign and is four shy of tying Jarvis Walker (52; 1988-89) for 10th place on the school's single-season chart. Epps ranks 26th nationally in steals (2.5 spg) in the latest (Feb. 4) NCAA Division II statistics. He has dished out 45 career assists to date and needs five more to attain his 50th career assist.

Miller Having Best Season - Senior forward Matt Miller notched his ninth double-figure scoring performance this campaign while registering 17 points versus Northwood. The 2001-02 FSU co-captain ranks as Ferris' third-leading rebounder (4.4 rpg) and fifth-leading scorer (8.6 ppg) to date this season. He presently has grabbed 293 career rebounds and needs seven more to garner his 300th career rebound. The 6-8 Miller currently has scored 451 points in 92 career outings (4.9 ppg). He has tallied both a personal career-high 197 points and 101 boards this campaign.

Head Coach Edgar Wilson - Now in his sixth season at the helm, head coach Edgar Wilson has a current career coaching record of 55-104 (.346). A 1978 graduate of Michigan State, Wilson guided the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Tournament championship and a NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance (1997-98). Wilson previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Central Michigan (1993-1996) and five seasons as an assistant at Michigan State (1978-83).

Bulldog Bites - Marcus Wallace presently ranks as both the GLIAC's second-leading overall scorer (20.2 ppg) and the league's second-leading scorer (21.5 ppg) in conference-only contests. He ranks 33rd nationally in the latest (Feb. 4) NCAA Division II scoring statistics .......... Junior forward Jeff Guernsey has scored 148 career points to date and needs two more to garner his 150th career point ......... Sophomore forward Nathan Wruble has currently recorded 91 career points and is nine shy of registering his 100th career point ............ Guernsey attained a career-high three steals at Grand Valley State ............. Wallace has recorded two of the GLIAC's top three scoring performances this campaign - 40 points vs. Grand Valley State (1/19/02) and 35 points vs. Northwood (2/9/02). His 40-point outing against the Lakers is currently the sixth-best NCAA Division II performance this season ............... Junior guard Brian Monahan currently has totaled 390 career points and is 10 away from compiling his 400th career point ........... Wallace's current season scoring average (20.0 ppg) ranks fourth-best among all-time FSU sophomores .............. Freshman guard Michael Anderson has presently tallied 83 career points and is 17 points shy of notching his 100th career point .......... Wallace has scored 20 points or more eight times in his last 11 outings and is averaging 23.3 ppg in that span ..............Monahan currently has attained 91 career steals and is 11 shy of tying David Tuck (102; 1986-90) for 10th place on the school's all-time chart .......... Wallace presently has made 92 career three-point field goals and is tied with Richard Legreair (92; 1985-89) for 10th place on Ferris' all-time list.

Epps Having Productive Season - Freshman guard Corey Epps has posted seven double-figure scoring outings this campaign, including four of the last nine contests to date. He presently ranks as FSU's sixth-leading scorer (6.4 ppg) this season. Epps has currently tallied 147 career points and needs three more to register his 150th career point. He has grabbed 66 rebounds to date and is nine shy of notching his 75th career rebound.

Against Saginaw Valley State - FSU and Saginaw Valley State will square off for the 63rd time this Saturday at SVSU's O'Neill Arena. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 36-26 and have won two of the last three meetings. In the last contest (Jan. 24, 2002), the Cardinals recorded a 77-65 road win. Ferris State head coach Edgar Wilson has a current 4-8 career coaching mark versus Saginaw Valley State. The Cardinals are 5-17 overall and 2-12 in league play heading into this Thursday's (Feb. 14) conference home contest against Grand Valley State. Freshman forward Anthony Parker is currently the leading scorer (14.6 ppg) this season for the Cardinals, who have lost five straight games to date. SVSU is coached by fourth-year head coach Dean Lockwood.
