Dec. 31: Bulldogs Win Two In Phoenix

FSU Basketball at a Glance - The Ferris State University men's basketball team returns to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action this Thursday (Jan. 3) as the Bulldogs travel to Hillsdale, Mich., to face the Hillsdale College Chargers at 8 p.m. (EST). FSU will then visit Wayne State University this Saturday (Jan. 5) for a 3 p.m. (EST) contest in Detroit, Mich. The Bulldogs are currently 3-8 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Last Week - Ferris State won two games at the Grand Canyon University/Trip Sports Classic held last Thursday thru Saturday (Dec. 27-29) in Phoenix, Ariz. The Bulldogs defeated the host Grand Canyon University Antelopes 71-69 in their classic opener last Thursday (Dec. 27). FSU beat the Mesa State (Colo.) College Mavericks 57-54 in last Saturday's (Dec. 29) classic finale. Prior to the Trip Sports classic, FSU had lost six-straight games and had not won consecutive games this season.

Wallace On Hot Streak - Sophomore guard Marcus Wallace is FSU's leading scorer (18.2 points per game) through 11 games. A returning starter, Wallace has notched eight-consecutive double-figure scoring games and has led the Bulldogs in scoring five of the past seven outings. He leads FSU with 10 double-digit scoring performances this year. The 6-3 Wallace scored his 400th career point against St. Joseph's College (Dec. 18) and presently has registered 463 career points. He currently has 140 career rebounds and needs 10 more to record his 150th career rebound. Wallace scored a game high 26 points and had eight rebounds against Mesa State.

Wallace has led the Bulldogs in scoring six times this season and scored a career high 29 points versus St. Joseph's. During the 2000-01 campaign, Wallace ranked as FSU's second-leading scorer (10.1 ppg).

Anderson Still Out With Injury - Senior center Adam Anderson, a 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America selection, has missed the past eight games due to a bone bruise injury (knee) and remains out indefinitely. Prior to his injury, Anderson was averaging 15.3 points per game (ppg). He has scored 10 points or more in 36 of his past 37 career outings, including each of his previous 30 contests. Anderson, the GLIAC's 2000-01 leading scorer (21.3 ppg) and a 2001-02 FSU co-captain, presently has 326 career made free throws and is six away from tying Marcus Kennedy (332; 1986-89) for eighth place on the all-time FSU chart.

Guernsey Leads The Way - Junior forward Jeff Guernsey posted a career high 18 points and had seven rebounds to lead FSU past Grand Canyon. The 6-5 Guernsey added nine points in FSU's win over Mesa State. Guernsey presently has scored 99 career points and is one point away from registering his 100th career point. He currently has 71 career rebounds and needs four more to record his 75th career rebound. Guernsey is averaging 3.7 points per game in 10 appearances this season.

Head Coach Edgar Wilson - Now in his sixth season at the helm, head coach Edgar Wilson has a current career coaching record of 55-92 (.374). A 1978 graduate of Michigan State, Wilson guided the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Tournament championship and a NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance (1997-98). Wilson previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Central Michigan (1993-1996) and five seasons as an assistant at Michigan State (1978-83).

Bulldog Bites - Junior point guard Brian Monahan presently has 147 career assists and needs three more to post his 150th career assist ........... Senior forward Matt Miller, a 2001-02 FSU co-captain, has 245 career rebounds to date and is five shy of registering his 250th career rebound .......... Junior forward Doug Isanhart notched a personal best eight rebounds, six points and two blocks against Mesa State ............ Sophomore forward Nathan Wruble tied a career best with eight rebounds against both Mesa State and Grand Canyon ........ Freshman guard Carlton Epps has reached double-figures (scoring) in six of the past eight games ........... Adam Anderson has scored 1,144 career points to date and is 17 points shy of matching Ted Bee (1,161; 1973-77) for 16th place on the all-time FSU list ........... Anderson currently has 458 rebounds and is 42 shy of registering his 500th career rebound ........... Sophomore forward Johnathan Bowers presently has 36 career blocks and needs one block to tie Marcus Tumblin (37; 1989-93) for seventh place on the FSU career list ............ Anderson has been named to the 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America team and the 2001-02 Street and Smith's NCAA Division II Preseason Honorable Mention All-America squad.

Freshman Playing Well - Carlton Epps registered his seventh double-figure scoring outing this year and his third career double-double (points and rebounds) performance against Grand Canyon as he tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds. The 6-2 Epps currently ranks as FSU's third-leading scorer (11.1 ppg) and second-leading rebounder (5.4 rebounds per game) this season. Epps leads the team with 27 steals while twin brother Corey Epps, a 6-2 freshman guard, ranks second with 18.

Against This Week's Foes - Ferris State holds a 55-35 series edge versus Hillsdale and is 33-27 all-time against Wayne State. Under head coach Edgar Wilson, the Bulldogs are 3-2 versus the Chargers and 1-4 against the Warriors. Last season (2000-01), Hillsdale defeated FSU 74-57 in Big Rapids (1/11/01) while Wayne State pulled out a 78-71 win (1/13/01) at Jim Wink Arena. FSU has won three of the past five series meetings against the Chargers. The Warriors have won four-straight games against Ferris State. Hillsdale enters Thursday's contest with an 11-0 overall mark and a 2-0 conference record. Wayne State is 7-4 overall and 2-0 in league play heading into this Thursday's home game against Grand Valley State.

Up Next - Ferris State will host the Ashland University Eagles next Saturday (Jan. 12) at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. (EST).
