Dec. 10: Bulldogs Drop Two GLIAC Games

FSU Basketball at a Glance - The Ferris State University men's basketball team is idle this week. The Bulldogs will host the St. Joseph's College (Ind.) Pumas next Tuesday (Dec. 18) in a non-conference contest at Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. (EST). The game is FSU's last prior to the Christmas break. Ferris State is currently 1-7 overall and 0-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. The Bulldogs have lost five-straight games since beating the Olivet College Comets (Nov. 20).

Last Week - Ferris State lost two conference games last week at Jim Wink Arena. The Bulldogs dropped a 73-67 decision versus the Gannon University Knights last Thursday (Dec. 6). FSU fell 67-55 against the Mercyhurst College Lakers last Saturday (Dec. 8). Sophomore Marcus Wallace led the Bulldogs in both games as he scored 20 points versus the Knights and had 17 points against Mercyhurst.

Bowers Reaches Key Marks - Sophomore Johnathan Bowers grabbed his 150th career rebound and scored his 250th career point last Thursday against Gannon. He currently has registered 269 career points and 157 career rebounds in 29 games. Bowers presently has 36 career blocks and moved into eighth place on the all-time FSU chart last Saturday with four blocks against Mercyhurst. The 6-9 Bowers needs one block to tie Marcus Tumblin (37; 1989-93) for seventh place on the FSU career list.

Bowers has posted three double-figure scoring games this season and ranks as FSU's leading rebounder (6.3 rebounds per game) and fourth-leading scorer (11.0 points per game) to date. He tallied a career-high 21 points in the 2001-02 season opener against Northern Kentucky University (Nov. 16) and recorded his first career double-double (points and rebounds) versus Christian Brothers University (Nov. 17) with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Anderson Still Out With Injury - Senior co-captain Adam Anderson, a 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America selection, has missed the past five games due to a bone bruise injury (knee) and remains out indefinitely. Prior to his injury, Anderson was averaging 15.3 points per game (ppg). He has scored 10 points or more in 36 of his past 37 career outings, including each of his previous 30 contests. Anderson, the GLIAC's 2000-01 leading scorer (21.3 ppg), presently has 326 career made free throws and is six away from tying Marcus Kennedy (332; 1986-89) for eighth place on the all-time FSU chart.

Miller Scores 300th Point - Matt Miller, a 2001-02 FSU team captain, recorded his 300th career point versus Gannon as he totaled 12 points and eight rebounds. The 6-8 Miller currently has 315 career points in 77 outings (4.1 ppg). He has posted three double-figure scoring outings this year and recorded his first career double-double (points and rebounds) versus the Aquinas College Saints (Nov. 27) as he scored 15 points and collected 11 rebounds. Miller currently ranks as FSU's second-leading rebounder (5.6 rebounds per game).

Head Coach Edgar Wilson - Now in his sixth season at the helm, head coach Edgar Wilson has a current career coaching record of 53-91 (.368). A 1978 graduate of Michigan State, Wilson guided the Bulldogs to the GLIAC Tournament championship and a NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional appearance (1997-98). Wilson previously spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Central Michigan (1993-1996) and five seasons as an assistant at Michigan State (1978-83).

Bulldog Bites - Marcus Wallace is FSU's leading scorer (16.4 ppg) to date and has currently notched five-consecutive double-figure scoring games ........ Freshman Timothy O'Brien scored a career-high six points against Mercyhurst ...... Freshman Michael Anderson totaled a personal-best seven points against the Lakers ......... Carlton Epps recorded his second career double-double (points and rebounds) versus Gannon as he had 11 points and 10 rebounds ........ Wallace currently has 394 career points and is six away from registering his 400th career point ........ Matt Miller has 237 career rebounds and needs 13 more to collect his 250th career rebound ......... Junior point guard Brian Monahan is 13 assists away from compiling his 150th career assist .......... Adam Anderson has scored 1,144 career points and is 17 points shy of matching Ted Bee (1,161; 1973-77) for 16th place on the all-time FSU list ................ Anderson currently has 458 career rebounds and is 42 away from grabbing his 500th career rebound ........... Anderson has 56 double-figure scoring outings in 79 career games.

Traveling to Phoenix - Ferris State will take part in the Grand Canyon University/Trip Sports Classic slated for Dec. 27-29 in Phoenix, Ariz. The Bulldogs will face the Grand Canyon University (Ariz.) Antelopes Thursday, Dec. 27, at 10 p.m. (EST). FSU will square off against the Mesa State College (Colo.) Mavericks Saturday, Dec. 29, at 8 p.m. (EST). The Ferris State University Alumni Association will host a pregame reception Dec. 27 at Treulich's Fine Steak House in Phoneix at 8:30 p.m. (EST). Anderson Garners Honors - Senior center Adam Anderson has been named to the 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America team and the 2001-02 Street and Smith's NCAA Division II Preseason Honorable Mention All-America squad. A 2000-01 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region pick, Anderson compiled FSU's ninth-best scoring output (555 points) last season.

Ticket Prices - Individual game tickets to all FSU home basketball games can be obtained at the door or by calling the Bulldog ticket office at (231) 591-2888. Adult tickets are $5 and student tickets are $3. A family pass can be purchased for $10. Ferris State faculty/staff ticket prices are $4. Special group pricing is available for groups of 20 or more.

Against St. Joseph's - Ferris State and St. Joseph's College will square off for the fourth time next Tuesday night (Dec. 18). The Pumas own a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. FSU head coach Edgar Wilson has a current career coaching record of 1-2 versus St. Joseph's. The Pumas are presently 0-7 overall entering next Monday's (Dec. 17) game against the Northwood University Timberwolves in Midland, Mich. St. Joseph's won the last series meeting 88-77 at Jim Wink Arena (Dec. 11, 1999) and has won two of the past three series contests.
