April 3: Seven Candidates Vying For The Position; Interview Sessions Open To The Public
The Ferris State University Athletics Department has narrowed its search for a new men's basketball head coach to seven finalists in an announcement made today by FSU Athletics Director Tom Kirinovic.
The finalists, who will be interviewing on the Ferris State campus starting Monday, April 8, were announced after Kirinovic and the search committee met to narrow the list of candidates in the screening and selection process. The head coaching position became vacant following the resignation of sixth-year head coach Edgar Wilson on February 28.
The finalists include Lewis Garner, assistant coach at Northwood University; Rob Flaska, assistant coach at Texas Christian University; Marty McDermott, head coach at Lake Superior State University; Joe Pechota, assistant coach at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne;
Ric Wesley, assistant coach at Southwest Missouri State University; Linc Darner, assistant coach at Ashland (Ohio) University; and Bill Sall, assistant coach at Hillsdale College.
A public forum, which allows the public an opportunity to meet with each candidate, will be held from 1-1:45 p.m.(EDT) during each candidate's interview session and will be conducted in the classroom at the R.L. Ewigleben (pronounced A-VAH-glave-in) Sports Complex on the FSU campus.
"I'm excited about not only the quantity but the high quality of applicants," said Kirinovic, who received over 50 applications for the position. "I'm confident we will be able to find an outstanding coach to lead our men's basketball program at Ferris State."
The interview dates and respective candidates are as follows:
April 8 - Lewis Garner (Assistant Coach - Northwood University)
April 9 - Rob Flaska (Assistant Coach - Texas Christian University)
April 10 - Marty McDermott (Head Coach - Lake Superior State University)
April 12 - Joe Pechota (Assistant Coach - Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne) pronounced Pa-chote-tah
April 15 - Ric Wesley (Assistant Coach - Southwest Missouri State University)
April 17 - Linc Darner (Assistant Coach - Ashland University)
April 19 - Bill Sall (Assistant Coach - Hillsdale College)
