Jan. 7: Bulldog Center to Miss Remainder of 2001-02 Season

Senior Adam Anderson Will Apply For Medical Redshirt Year

Adam Anderson Senior center Adam Anderson (Kent City), a current member of the Ferris State University men's basketball team, will miss the remainder of the 2001-02 campaign and apply for a medical redshirt season, according to an announcement by FSU head coach Edgar Wilson.

A 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America selection, Anderson hasn't played in the last 10 games due to a bone bruise injury (knee) suffered in a 79-59 non-conference win against Olivet (Mich.) College (Nov. 20) at FSU's Jim Wink Arena in Big Rapids. According to standard NCAA procedure, Ferris State will be required to petition for an extra season of eligibility through the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) office at the completion of the 2001-02 basketball season.

"Adam's injury hasn't healed at the rate we anticipated," Wilson said. "His knee isn't completely healthy, and rather than risk further injury, we have decided it's best for him to apply for a medical redshirt year."

Prior to his injury, Anderson had played in three contests and was averaging 15.3 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game and 1.0 blocks per game. A 2000-01 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region selection, Anderson was named to the 2001-02 Street and Smith's Preseason Honorable Mention All-America squad and was voted one of FSU's 2001-02 team co-captains. He has scored 10 points or more in 36 of his past 37 career outings, including each of his previous 30 contests.

The 6-10 Anderson earned first-team 2000-01 All-GLIAC North Division honors and 2000-01 GLIAC All-Defensive Team recognition. The GLIAC's 2000-01 leading scorer (21.3 ppg), Anderson has scored 1,144 career points to date and presently ranks 17th on the school's career scoring chart. He notched the school's ninth best single-season scoring output (555 points) last year.

A second-team 1999-2000 All-GLIAC pick, Anderson currently ranks as Ferris' career blocks leader (102) and is ninth on the school's career made free throw chart (326-512). Anderson established FSU single-season records in made free throws (179-276) and blocks (50) during the 2000-01 season.

Ferris State is currently 3-10 overall and 0-4 in GLIAC action heading into this Saturday's (Jan. 12) 3 p.m. (EST) conference home game against the Ashland (Ohio) University Eagles at Jim Wink Arena.
