Nov. 4, 2001
Senior center Adam Anderson, a member of the 2001-02 Ferris State University men's basketball team, has been named to the 2001-02 Basketball Times NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 All-America Team.
Anderson, a 2000-01 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region selection, was among 25 individuals to comprise the publication's preseason squad and was the lone representative from a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) member school on the list. He also has been chosen as a honorable mention Street and Smith's NCAA Division II Preseason All-America selection.
Last season, the 6-10 Anderson earned first-team All-GLIAC North Division honors and was named to the 2000-01 GLIAC All-Defensive Team. He became the first FSU player to earn all-region recognition since former Bulldog standout Day Day Smith was a second-team pick in 1998 and was only the fourth Ferris State player in the past 20 years to earn first-team all-region honors.
Anderson, who led the GLIAC in scoring at 21.3 points per game last season, notched the fifth-best single-season scoring average by a Bulldog junior during the 2000-01 campaign and became the 22nd player in the 73-year history of Ferris State basketball to score over 1,000 career points.
In 26 games last year, Anderson scored 555 points as he recorded the ninth-best single-season scoring output in school history. He established FSU school records with 179 made free throws and 50 blocked shots during the 2000-01 season.
Anderson enters his senior campaign with a 27-game double-figure scoring streak intact and has scored 10 points or more in 33 of his last 34 career outings. A 1999-2000 second-team All-GLIAC pick, Anderson ranks 17th on the Ferris State career scoring chart with 1,098 career points in 76 games (14.4 ppg) and is nine rebounds away from 20th place on the school rebounding chart with 442 career boards (5.8 rpg). He is FSU's all-time blocked shots leader with 99 career swats.
The eight wins earned by the FSU men's basketball squad during the 2000-01 campaign were the most since the 1997-98 Bulldog team finished 21-12 and claimed the GLIAC Tournament title. FSU posted a 5-13 conference mark a year ago.
Ferris State will open the 2001-02 campaign on Nov. 16 as they face Northern Kentucky at 7:45 p.m. in the opening round of the John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic at Highland Heights, Ky.
