FERRIS MEN'S BASKETBALL ALUMNI GAME SET FOR OCT. 28
Rebounders Club Reception To Follow Game Featuring Past Stars
Bulldog men's basketball players from the past will be back on the court as the Ferris State University Athletics Department hosts an Alumni Basketball Game featuring the stars of yesteryear on Saturday, Oct. 28.
|Blast From The Past
Former Bulldog standouts such as four-time All-GLIAC honoree Jarvis Walker (above) are planning to take part in FSU's 2006 Men's Basketball Alumni Game
The alumni event, which is being sponsored by the Rebounders Club, tips off at 11:30 a.m. (EDT) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena. A reception for club members will immediately follow the contest. The former players will be divided into two teams for the alumni-only game.
In addition to the game, members of this season's Ferris State men's basketball team along with the coaching staff will be in attendance and recognized during the outing. Each alumni player taking part in the game will also be introduced.
Admission to the event is free for all Rebounders Club members. A small admission price will be charged for all non-club members to help offset the cost of the event. The reception will conclude prior to the start of the Ferris-Grand Valley State football contest, which kicks off the same day starting at 2 p.m. (EDT) in Big Rapids.
Among the former players tentatively slated to take part in the alumni game are past legends such as Craig Chappell (1984-88), Jarvis Walker (1985-88), Ty Miller (1990-94), Dannie Hayes (1991-95), Day Day Smith (1996-98) along with more recent standouts including Adam Anderson (1998-03), Carlton Epps (2001-05) and Dennis Springs (2002-06). More than 20 former players are planning to take part in the contest.
The Rebounders Booster Club helps provide financial assistance and fan support to the men's basketball program through various fundraising and social activities. Membership in the club has increased significantly over the past two years. Individual memberships start at only $25 and include a season pass to all 12 regular-season home games this campaign, which represents a substantial savings of $59 over single-game ticket prices. For more information on the club, please contact the FSU Athletics Department at (231) 591-2860.
The Bulldog men's basketball team, which is guided by fifth-year head coach Bill Sall, welcomes back three starters and six letterwinners from last campaign. The squad's initial 2006-07 appearance is an exhibition contest slated for Tuesday, Nov. 7, versus NCAA Division I Toledo (Ohio) starting at 6 p.m. (EDT) in Toledo, Ohio. FSU then visits the University of Detroit Mercy Friday, Nov. 10, for a 7:05 p.m. (EDT) exhibition contest in Detroit, Mich. Ferris' official season opener is Friday, Nov. 17, against host Northern Kentucky in the annual John L. Griffin/Lions Club Classic at Highland Heights, Ky. Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m. (EDT).
The first men's basketball home game of the 2006-07 campaign will be Saturday, Nov. 25, against nationally-ranked and defending NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Champion Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The non-league game will begin at 3 p.m. (EDT) inside Wink Arena.
Ferris State posted an 18-13 overall mark en route to making its second consecutive NCAA-II Great Lakes Regional Tournament berth during the 2005-06 campaign. FSU posted a second-place 13-5 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division regular-season action after claiming back-to-back league crowns in 2003-04 and 2004-05. Ferris also received GLIAC Tournament runner-up accolades last season.
