FERRIS STATE'S MANGOS AND BROWN NAMED CCHA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Ferris State Pair Recognized For Their Performance At the Badger Hockey Showdown
Senior defenseman Simon Mangos (Caledon, Ontario) and junior goaltender Mike Brown (Calgary, Alberta), members of the 2003-04 Ferris State University men's ice hockey team have been named this week's Central Collegiate Hockey Association's (CCHA) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively as announced by the CCHA office. The two played important roles in Ferris State capturing the 15th annual Badger Hockey Showdown Championship title this past weekend (Dec. 27-28) in Madison, Wis.

Mangos compiled four points in the two-game tournament with one goal and three assists while posting a plus five efficiency rating to gain a spot on the all-tourney team. The 2002-03 CCHA Second-Team selection totaled three assists in the Bulldogs' 7-4 tourney-opening victory over Massachusetts-Lowell last Saturday (Dec. 27) and then tallied the game's initial goal in Sunday's (Dec. 28) championship game as the Bulldogs snapped nationally fourth-ranked Wisconsin's 15-game unbeaten streak with a 3-1 win over the host Badgers.
The FSU assistant captain presently ranks tops among Ferris defensemen this season with 10 points (2-8--10) and is +8 in 18 outings. He received CCHA Defensive Player of the Week laurels last season (Jan. 6). For his career, Mangos has accumulated 46 points on 20 goals with 26 assists in 133 contests.
The Most Outstanding Player of the Badger Hockey Showdown, Brown compiled a .935 save percentage as a result of blocking 72-of-77 shots on goal in the tourney. He recorded 34 saves against Massachusetts-Lowell and then turned aside 38 shots on net in the championship contest.

Brown, an American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American and CCHA First-Teamer last season, was recognized as the CCHA's Defensive Player of the Week a league-record six times. In 18 appearances this campaign, Brown is 8-8-2 in net with a 3.00 goals against average and a .896 save percentage.
The all-time winningest netminder in Ferris history, Brown sports a 48-31-3 mark with a 2.58 goals against average and a .915 save percentage in 84 career games to date.
The Bulldogs, who are midst a present seven-game unbeaten streak at 5-0-2, are 8-8-2 overall and 4-7-1 in the CCHA.
Ferris State hosts the Alaska Fairbanks Nanooks this weekend (Jan. 2-3) in a two-game CCHA series at FSU's Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids, Mich. Starting time for Friday's contest is 7:35 p.m. (EST) with Saturday's rematch slated to commence at 7:05 p.m. (EST).
