ROBERT BISHOP ESTABLISHES HOCKEY SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND

Former Ferris State Hockey Player Gives Back To The Program

Bulldog Pride.

Instilled within and committed to making a positive impact are reasons why Robert and Sue Bishop have established the Robert Bishop Hockey Scholarship Endowment Fund.

The Bishop Hockey Scholarship Endowment Fund will directly benefit the Ferris State Ice Hockey program with the creation of a student-athlete scholarship.

The financial contributions by the Bishops will have a direct and significant impact on the program's high standards as FSU head coach Bob Daniels points out.

"On behalf of the Ferris State hockey program, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Robert Bishop for his generous commitment," Daniels said. "His generosity will help ensure the success of Bulldog hockey for years to come."

"I hope this (scholarship endowment) will help some other people with their college careers," said Bishop. "Ferris State was a good school for me and provided me with a good opportunity. I just want to show my appreciation and give back a little bit."

Robert Bishop was a two-time (1977-78 and 1978-79) Ferris State varsity hockey letterwinner and graduated from the Automotive Body program in 1979.

"Hockey is still one of my favorite things," said Bishop. "I have a son coming up and hopefully, he will play college hockey someday."

In the 2002-03 season, Ferris State enjoyed its most productive campaign ever in the program’s 25-year NCAA Division I history by registering a school-record 31-10-1 overall mark, which included a first-place 22-5-1 CCHA record and its first-ever CCHA Regular-Season Championship title. The nationally-ranked Bulldogs also advanced to the 2003 NCAA Championship Tournament’s West Regional Championship contest in what represented their first-ever NCAA Tourney appearance and was among the nation's final eight teams.

With the financial help from its alumni, the Ferris State Athletics program is striving to ensure the University's tradition of producing student-athletes who excel both on and off the ice.

"I believe Robert Bishop's support will spread to our younger hockey alumnus and is a prime measure of how past generations of Ferris players are proud to be an integral part of the Bulldog hockey family," said Daniels.
