To School Administrators and Teachers:Centrally located on the campus of Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., the Card Wildlife Education Center is a leading educational resource in mid-Michigan. The primary function of the CWEC is to serve as an educational resource for Ferris students, K-12 school children, and members of the Michigan community. Many school groups visit the CWEC each year, using the museum-like atmosphere of the Card Wildlife Education Center to enhance the biology and nature lessons their students have received in the classroom.The Card Wildlife Education Center held an extremely successful benefit dinner in the spring of 2006 to raise funds to support the educational programs we offer. Thanks to the generous donations of our benefactors, we are now in place to pass those benefits on to local schools. While the Card Wildlife Education Center is open to the public and charges no admission fee, it can be costly to transport a large number of students. We would like to offer your school a chance to apply for a "transportation waiver," wherein we will reimburse you for all or part of your transportation fees. The amount of compensation will be determined by your institution's travel policy. Interested teachers should submit an application form by March 5, 2010. The number and size of the awards will be determined by the number of applicants. The 5,000 square foot Card Wildlife Education Center provides students a chance to view over 175 mounts of wild animals from Michigan, North America, Asia, Africa, South America, and Australia. We also offer a hands-on area, where students can handle and examine pelts, horns, and antlers. Please share this opportunity with any and all interested educators at your institution.
