Commencement

Cap and Gown/Honor Cord Information

Caps and gowns will be available starting Thursday, November 5, 2009 in the Lundberg Bookstore, located in the Rankin Student Center. After November 20, 2009 availability may be limited.  Caps and gowns may be purchased with cash, check or credit card.

If you are unable to visit the Bookstore to purchase your regalia, you may contact them at
(231) 591-2607 to request that your cap and gown be sent to you. A shipping fee will be charged to all orders that are shipped.

Prior to Commencement check to make sure that you have all of your regalia. You should have the following:

• Cap
• Gown - see chart below
• Tassel - see color chart below
• Honor Cord (if you qualify) - see more information below
• Hood (Masters or Doctorate) - see color chart below

Note: Graduates must wear the appropriate academic regalia (cap and gown) in order to participate in the Commencement ceremonies.

Special Sizes (Gowns)
Graduates who require a special size should contact the bookstore prior to November 6, 2009 to ensure prompt delivery.

Honor Cords
Students who are eligible to receive a honor cord from the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences and Education and Human Services may purchase them at the Ferris Bookstore located in the Rankin Student Center.

Students who are eligible to receive a honor cord from the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business, Engineering Technology and Professional and Technological Studies may pick up their honor cord from their college's Commencement Coordinator.

Academic Regalia Chart

Academic regalia was determined in America by prominent university leaders in 1895.

Academic Regalia (Gowns)
Bachelor's Gowns	Have long, bell-shaped sleeves.
Master's Gowns	Have oblong sleeves which drape gracefully below the knees and are open at the wrists
Doctoral Gowns	Are faced with black velvet and have three bars of velvet across the bell-shaped sleeves
