Hand Circle Activity

This activity has been used as an introductory to learning styles in FSUS classes. Students partner up and proceed to solve the problem.

Students begin with one student placing the rope on each wrist. The other student places one end of the rope on one wrist, running the rope on the inside of partner's rope, then placing on other wrist.

Rules:

Separate from each other without:
  1. Cutting the rope
  2. Untying the knots
  3. Slipping the knotted portion over your hands
Solution:
  1. Take a bight in the center of your partner's rope
  2. Pass this bight under either of your wrist loops
  3. Pull the bight through with your hand and pass the bight over your hand and you are free
Debrief:
  1. What did you do to free yourself?
  2. Did you watch others or just jump in and try things?
  3. Did you listen to your partner?
  4. At any time did you think it was impossible?
