  • 1997 - First high school Career Choices articulated FSU/BRHS class offered as a joint career counseling effort. Now, in 2007, the High School Career Choices "Career Day" program has brought over 5,900 students and teachers, to campus to experience Career Pathways at the collegiate level. Over 30 schoo have participated.
  • 1999 - ECCD counselors presented, "Good Will Hunting for a Career" at the national meeting of National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). The NACADA selection committee was cited as one of the top presentations to attend.
  • 1999 - Strategies for Your Educational Success offered its first workshop -- over 1,200 students have participated since that year. Strategies for Success deemed by NACADA as a "Best Practice" for academic probation students. The Strategies program will be included in the Fall 2007 NACADA monograph.
  • 2002 - The Liaison Committee for Students with Disabilities (LCSD) was established consisting of a campus wide and community membership and was nominated for the Outstanding Team Award.
  • 2002 & 2004 - Under the leadership of Karen GreenBay, the LCSD Accessibility Awareness Day sub-committee organized two Accessibility Awareness Days for the president's staff, deans and department heads.
  • 2003 - Career Pathways Web site developed to help secondary students identify programs of study based on pathways selected in high school Enhancements made in 2006 for parents and educators, as well as career activities for secondary students.
  • 2004 - The comprehensive academic advising Web site was targeted to faculty advisors, students, FSU-GR, Kendall, and UCEL. The site received over 15,000 hits within a three-year period.
  • Over the years, DSO developed the Transition Seminar for Students and Parents, a DSO Faculty Manual, DSO IQ brochure, DSO Student Handbook, DSO WebCT Course

 

Mission Statement

The mission is to enhance and coordinate counseling services to assist students in meeting educational goals.
