University College Recognitions
During the first ten years of its existence (1997-2007), University College has accomplished much, including these important achievements, innovations, and recognitions:

Establishment in 1997 of an Honors Program numbering 132 students in Helen Ferris Hall with subsequent growth to approximately 600 students in four residence halls and off campus by Fall 2007 -- an increase of 350%.

Introduction of the Career Exploration program as the only university-level career decision-making learning community in Michigan.

Implementation of a required Ferris State University Seminar course, modeled after the program founded by John Gardner at the University of South Carolina, for all new first-year students on the Big Rapids campus since 2002.

National recognition for the unique form of supplemental instruction offered through the Structured Learning Assistance program with a Theodore M. Hesburgh Certificate of Excellence in 2000 and a replication grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) in 2001-2004.

Identification of the Educational and Career Counseling Center's Strategies for Educational Success program as an exemplary retention initiative for students on academic probation in 2007 by the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA).

Recognition of the Academic Support Center by the National Tutoring Association (NTA) with the Tutoring Program Excellence Award in 2003.

Identification of the SCHOLAR Program's Bulldog Prevention Week as a model program by the Prevention Network of Michigan in 2005.

Publication of articles in refereed professional journals as well as numerous presentations at professional meetings to share the success of the programs described above as well as other programs not featured here.
