A bachelor's degree in accountancy prepares you for a number of key positions in public accounting, private/industrial accounting, governmental/nonprofit accounting, or accounting education. And because this program builds on a liberal arts foundation and includes a solid business core, you'll be in a perfect position to take advantage of opportunities in non-accounting business careers, too, such as banking, consulting, small business ownership or general management. This degree also provides a strong platform for graduate business or law school. This program is an excellent choice for students with a specialized associate 's degree, like business construction technology, legal assistance, retail fashion merchandising. It is also great for students with an associate's in business who would like to add technical or specialized training to their credentials. The major in business administration professional track is designed to prepare individuals for the rapidly changing nature of the work environment in business, government and other nonprofit organizations. The program is designed to equip graduates for entry-level positions as well as advancement. Building upon a core of business courses, the program features a tight sequence of major courses; however, the program also provides the flexibility to specialize in an area of for the student. Students with associate degrees in technical fields will find the program attractive for building a solid knowledge of business and management upon their technical expertise. The major is also valuable as preparation for law school, as well as for graduate studies in business. Basic Admission Requirements: To be admitted to this program you must have an associate’s degree with at least 24 semester credit hours of occupational specialty courses, and an overall GPA of 2.0 or better.

  • Administrative Concentration This option is designed for those seeking educational administration background in order to qualify for a position as principal, assistant principal or curriculum director. Students in this option are required to take 15 credit hours of core education courses and 18 credit hours of education requirements. NOTE: The Michigan Department of Education currently does not offer any endorsement in this area.
  • Instructor Concentration Designed primarily for vocational teachers who want to further their teaching skills and competence and enhance their subject-area expertise. Students in this option are required to take 15-16 credits of core education courses, a 2-credit hour internship, and 16 credit hours of education or subject-area electives.
  • Postsecondary Administration Concentration Designed for persons seeking a position as a postsecondary administrator (community college/university coordinator or department head). Students in this option are required to take 12-13 credits of core education courses and 20 credit hours of education requirements.
  • Training & Development Concentration Designed for persons who wish to work in the training and development field in business or industry. Students in this option are required to take 9-10 credits of core education courses, 19-20 credits of education requirements and 3 credits of content-area electives.

  • Administrative Option - This option is designed for those seeking educational administrative background in order to qualify for position as principal, assistant principal or curriculum director. Students in this option are required to take 15 credit hours of core education courses and 18 credit hours of education requirements.   • Subject Area Option - This option will allow new teachers to complete their 18-semester-hour planned program and earn a master’s degree. It is designed primarily for teachers who want to further develop their teaching skills and competence and to enhance their subject area expertise. Students in this program are required to take a 16-hour core of education courses and 6-10 hours of education electives. In addition, they must take 6-10 hours at the graduate level in their major, minor, or related field. Students should consult their education and subject area advisor(s) for recommended courses. A total of 32 hours is required for Subject Area Option program completion.
  • Reading Endorsement Option - This option is open to those already holding teacher certification who wish to add a K-12 reading endorsement and complete a master’s degree. The reading subject-area test must be passed in order to qualify for the endorsement. Students in this option must take 9 credit hours of core education courses and 30 credit hours of required reading courses.

Early Childhood Education BS

For those people who like to be around children, a career in early childhood education can be a labor of love. The Early Childhood Education program at Ferris teaches a broad spectrum of courses. Students learn about the education of children and study early childhood development, nutrition, first aid, children's literature and child psychology. They also receive a broad educational background by completing general education courses in English, mathematics, humanities and sociology. Practical experience is another significant part of the program. Majors have the opportunity in the child development laboratory to observe and work with infants, toddlers and preschoolers, applying theories and techniques taught in the classroom.
