Class Cancellation
Faculty Absence
In the event of an absence (e.g., illness or personal conflict),
you are required to contact the regional site or the UCEL main office
in a timely manner to cancel the class. Regional Center staff will
attempt to notify students, but we also request your assistance
with their notification whenever feasible.
If you know ahead of time that a class session
will be cancelled, please let the regional office know so that
they can cancel the classroom.
Inclement Weather
Conditions
There are times when class cancellation is necessary due to inclement
weather. In these cases, the rule of thumb is if the site or community
college where classes are offered is closed, then class is cancelled.
It is suggested that your class develop a plan of action in case
a cancellation is necessary (e.g. phone tree or e-mail list).
If the site is still open, but as the instructor,
you feel that the weather is too hazardous for students or for you
to attend, then you will need to contact the regional site or the
UCEL main office to cancel. The students will be called, but remember
that many students drive a distance, so this information will need
to be conveyed several hours in advance of the class meeting time
to make sure they are not already in transit.
