Business Administration MBA Online Program Indicator

Ferris State University's MBA teaches the concepts and processes that have demonstrated their worth in enhancing organizational performance worldwide. This base of knowledge is key in modern business as they strive to remain vital and competitive in today's global economy. The goal of the Ferris MBA is translating these competencies and skills into a curriculum that promotes organization values and processes that contribute to the achievement of organizational objectives. The learning experience is facilitated by an instructional process that models the concepts, provides the conceptual underpinnings and promotes their application. The Ferris MBA is built around Performance Management concepts, the Balanced Scorecard and the seven criteria of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria for Performance Excellence. Consistent with the MBNQA criteria, the program focuses on leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, information and analysis, human resources, process management and business results. Note: The vast majority of instruction is delivered online. Students are required to attend two Saturday classroom sessions.

Choosing to complete your master's degree in Career and Technical Education through Ferris is a smart move because it gives you the options you need to meet your career goals. Plan your degree around one of the following specialties (concentration availability varies by location):

  • Administrative Concentration This option is designed for those seeking educational administration background in order to qualify for a position as principal, assistant principal or curriculum director. Students in this option are required to take 15 credit hours of core education courses and 18 credit hours of education requirements. NOTE: The Michigan Department of Education currently does not offer any endorsement in this area.
  • Instructor Concentration Designed primarily for vocational teachers who want to further their teaching skills and competence and enhance their subject-area expertise. Students in this option are required to take 15-16 credits of core education courses, a 2-credit hour internship, and 16 credit hours of education or subject-area electives.
  • Postsecondary Administration Concentration Designed for persons seeking a position as a postsecondary administrator (community college/university coordinator or department head). Students in this option are required to take 12-13 credits of core education courses and 20 credit hours of education requirements.
  • Training & Development Concentration Designed for persons who wish to work in the training and development field in business or industry. Students in this option are required to take 9-10 credits of core education courses, 19-20 credits of education requirements and 3 credits of content-area electives.

Criminal Justice MS

As you think about advancing in your criminal justice career, you may have realized that having a master's degree would help you develop and enhance the administration skills needed to move through the ranks of your agency.

In addition to giving you the skills and credentials needed for promotion, the Ferris degree is also designed to meet the theoretical and analytical needs of people who will be continuing on with doctoral or law studies.

As you move through the Criminal Justice Administration MS curriculum, you will gain valuable knowledge through a set of core courses in areas such as legal issues and the nature of crime; enhance your skills through criminal justice research methods and criminal justice evaluation; and focus on administration through leadership, budgeting, and personnel management courses. You will then use what you have learned as you complete a culminating experience - either a thesis or graduate topics and comprehensive critique/exam experience. The master's degree emphasizes four core areas:

Choosing to complete your master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction through Ferris is a smart move because it gives you the options you need to meet your career goals. Plan your degree around one of the following specialties Note: Not all options available at all locations:

  • Administrative Option - This option is designed for those seeking educational administrative background in order to qualify for position as principal, assistant principal or curriculum director. Students in this option are required to take 15 credit hours of core education courses and 18 credit hours of education requirements. NOTE: The Michigan Department of Education currently does not offer any endorsement in this area.
  • Subject Area Option - This option will allow new teachers to complete their 18-semester-hour planned program and earn a master’s degree. It is designed primarily for teachers who want to further develop their teaching skills and competence and to enhance their subject area expertise. Students in this program are required to take a 16-hour core of education courses and 6-10 hours of education electives. In addition, they must take 6-10 hours at the graduate level in their major, minor, or related field. Students should consult their education and subject area advisor(s) for recommended courses. A total of 32 hours is required for Subject Area Option program completion.
  • Reading Endorsement Option - This option is open to those already holding teacher certification who wish to add a K-12 reading endorsement and complete a master’s degree. The reading subject-area test must be passed in order to qualify for the endorsement. Students in this option must take 9 credit hours of core education courses and 30 credit hours of required reading courses.

Information Systems Management MS

The MS-ISM is the choice for individuals interested in acquiring skills to enter the information technology profession or current professionals interested in reengineering their knowledge and skill set. The MS-ISM program focuses on the concepts and skills for effective leadership and includes concentration choices in emerging areas such as outsourcing management and several technical areas with growing career potential. Note: This program is delivered in a mixed format meaning that roughly half of the instruction is online and half in the classroom.

This program is designed to provide a curriculum that prepares nurses with the knowledge and skills needed for a variety of advanced specialty roles. The 36 credit program is comprised of three components: a basic set of nursing core courses for 12 credits, a specialized advanced leadership role concentration for an additional 12 credits and the final 12 credits which include the practicum and scholarly project. In the discipline of nursing, clinical specialization occurs academically at the graduate level.

The MSN program, with specialty concentration options for advanced leadership roles provides educational opportunities for BSN prepared nurses who desire such a role. This degree is intended to build upon a basic generic BSN degree and provides the student with three specialty concentration options. The advanced specialty role concentrations all support career mobility options that are in very high demand within the discipline of nursing at the present time. These focused advanced specialty role options include: nursing education, nursing administration, and nursing informatics.

The MSN program is designed to meet the needs of BSN nurses who want to further their educational growth and development in an accessible program and schedule that accommodates the busy lives of working adults.
