The baccalaureate program in dental hygiene is designed for dental hygienists with an associate degree in dental hygiene who want to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in a student-centered learning environment. For those people who like to be around children, a career in early childhood education can be a labor of love. The Early Childhood Education program at Ferris teaches a broad spectrum of courses. Students learn about the education of children and study early childhood development, nutrition, first aid, children's literature and child psychology. They also receive a broad educational background by completing general education courses in English, mathematics, humanities and sociology. Practical experience is another significant part of the program. Majors have the opportunity in the child development laboratory to observe and work with infants, toddlers and preschoolers, applying theories and techniques taught in the classroom.


Elementary Education BS

This program is standards-based, allowing teacher candidates to have two minors in addition to the planned program. In addition to the core academic areas, the elementary education teacher candidates receive an excellent foundation in physical education and the fine arts. They learn to integrate physical education and the arts with the other core subjects and technology. All Ferris State University elementary education students also complete a required course, "Preventing Violence in Schools." Because Ferris State University has early placements in elementary schools, teacher candidates participate in more field-based experiences than teacher candidates at most other universities. Additionally, all professional courses have school-based experiences taught by instructional teams comprised of professors from the content disciplines, teacher educators, and expert K-12 teachers. These field-based experiences led by multi-disciplinary teams provide the teacher candidates with models of innovative teaching that connects theory, practice, and content in the subject areas.


Health Care Systems Administration BS

As the health care industry continues to grow and expand, the demand for skilled health care managers also increases. Employment is expected to grow faster than average with the fastest growth in home health agencies, residential care facilities and practitioners' offices and clinics. This program has been designed in two formats, one for students who enter the program either as freshmen or who transfer into the program after having completed an associate degree and the second for students who wish to complete a bachelor's degree while enrolled in a clinical associate degree program. The course work, which includes courses in management, marketing, accounting, quality assurance, health care finance, health-care planning and long-term care management prepares you to work in many areas in health-care. Graduates are able to enter graduate school to earn a master's degree.


Health Information Management BS

As the health care industry continues to grow and expand, the demand for medical record administrators also increases. Employment is expected to grow faster than average through the year 2010 because of rapid changes in health care regulations that require individuals skilled in the interpretation of health data. Many graduates of this program are employed in hospitals, but job growth is projected to be greatest in physicians' offices and clinics, nursing homes and home health agencies. This program also allows students who have work experience in health information to take challenge examinations to earn credit for courses in the curriculum. Students who have begun the Independent Study Program sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association, and have passed modules with a 73% or better, could be granted college credit for those modules. At the end of the program, you will be eligible to apply to write the national certification examination to earn the designation of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Basic Admission Requirements: Students who graduated from an accredited Medical Records or Health Information associate degree program with a cumulative grade point average of not less than a 2.50 on a 4.00 scale are eligible to apply.


HVACR Engineering Technology BS Online Program Indicator

The curriculum is a two-year, upper-division sequence leading to a bachelor of science degree. Instruction is aimed at developing expertise in system and controls design, retrofitting, testing and adjusting, system balancing, and building operations with microcomputer controls. Students learn up-to-date methods of identifying and performing efficiency evaluations on different types of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems found in commercial and industrial buildings. They also learn methods of adjusting and balancing equipment for maximum performance. General Admission Requirements: Students entering the HVACR Engineering Technology program must have completed the HVACR Technology program at Ferris or an equivalent A.A.S. program at another institution (or equivalent) with a minimum 2.5 GPA. In addition, students should possess computer literacy skills and have completed college intermediate algebra and trigonometry and a scientific understanding course. Note: Completion of this degree will require students to attend a 4-day laboratory session in Big Rapids during one summer.

Ferris State University offers an RN to BSN program designed to give you options from day one. As you work toward your degree, you'll choose the class location that best suits your needs, with one day or evening a week schedules. Once you've earned your BSN, you'll be able to choose from a variety of career paths, including enhanced patient care, nursing management, staff development, education, lab research and administration. Your education is designed to enhance your skills in such areas as family health, community health and special populations health. Upon entering the BSN program, you'll work with a cohort group through the entire program. With groups throughout the state, you'll be sure to find one that's close to you. Basic admission requirements: Ferris' BSN program is designed for associate degree and diploma RNs who want to further their educational growth and development and builds upon prior learning. To be eligible for the BSN program, applicants must hold a Michigan registered nurse license. Prospective students must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 in the basic nursing program (ADN or diploma) and in each of the biological and physical sciences.

Both of these degrees are available either as classroom experiences in Flint or Traverse City or through the online ProMoTEd program. ProMoTEd is a five-semester modularized program that may lead to teacher certification with additional coursework. Each summer semester includes online learning as well as a one week, on-campus intensive learning experience. Fall and Spring semesters are online modules. Seventy-five percent (75%) of the ProMoTEd Program is conducted online. Upon acceptance into the ProMoTEd Program, you will be given usernames and passwords to use.
