Profile:
Mike Korcal is an Assistant Professor in the HVACR Department in the College of Technology. He came from Johnson Controls, Inc. where he was a Senior Instructional Technologist. He held this position from August 2001 to August 2005 in Orlando, Florida. Some of his responsibilities included training Johnson Controls employees and customers throughout the United States in the use and function of the control hardware and software manufactured by JCI. He was also responsible for the development of new course material to meet the constant change in technology. Prior to the last few years working for JCI, Mike taught in the HVACR Engineering Technology Program at Ferris State University as a tenured Assistant Professor. Mike's work with students at Ferris resulted in two first place awards in the ASHRAE international student design competition and one second place award. Mike was instrumental in establishing Ferris' state-of-the-industry direct digital controls lab by working with JCI to obtain equipment consisting of 10 NCM350's, 40 unitary controllers and 10 complete DX9100 controllers. Mike's background is diverse. As co-owner of Air-N-Energy Consulting Inc., Mike spent several years working with clients in western Michigan in the areas of indoor air quality, utility bill analysis, HVAC design and analysis and temperature control solutions. Mike also spent several years managing projects and designing systems for: - Technical Energy Solutions, a NOVAR control contractor in Grand Rapids, Michigan

In addition, Mike was a medical lab technician for several years. His experience in the medical industry gives him a unique advantage in the area of indoor air quality, as he is knowledgeable about both the problems and the solutions encountered in the medical industry. His experience as a systems designer, controls system designer, energy consultant, professor and corporate trainer, coupled with his expertise in biological and chemical contaminants and computer applications gives him a rich background for teaching in the HVAC/R program. Mike holds a MS in Career and Technical Education, a BS in HVACR Engineering Technology, and an AAS in HVAC/R Technology from Ferris State University . He also holds a BS in Medical Technology from Michigan State University, where he graduated with honors.
