Established in 1984, Ferris State University's nationally recognized Welding Engineering Technology program is the largest of its kind in the United States. Since its inception the program has had major revisions in response to constituent feedback. The program is designed to produce plant-level welding engineering technology graduates who are involved in the concept, design and engineering of weldments and implementation of welding processes. This overall knowledge of weldments and the ability to engineer welding and joining systems produces graduates who are in great demand and highly compensated.

Ferris Investments in Health and Safety!!!

During the summer 2008, Ferris State invested nearly $900,000.00 in a welding fume ventilation system for the health and safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors using welding laboratory facilities. The state-of-the-art system services 64 welding, cutting and grinding work stations throughout the facility. Methods of fume capture include back-draft mounted, downdraft tables, articulated arms, canopy stations, and self-contained systems. Welding fumes and gases are captured, filtered through one of seven separate collection systems, and returned to the lab space for maximum energy efficiency.
