The School of Education's supporting units in arts and sciences participate in the Michigan Department of Education review of our
teaching major and minor specialty areas to assure that these specialty area programs reflect state standards.

MTTC Subject Area Test results and student teaching evaluations are monitored and used by the specific arts and sciences departments for specialty area program improvement.
The
Teacher Education Advisory Council, which has representative members from each specialty-area department, monitor and advise teacher candidate performances in the specialty-areas.
The School of Education has a full-time
Program Approval and PR/PE Coordinator who acts as a liaison center between the School of Education, the state, the arts and sciences departments, and advisory groups to assure that the teacher education program supports state standards.
B. What strategies are used to ensure that the teacher education program curricula for majors and minors are aligned with state standards/essential goals and objectives for P-12 education?
- The School of Education participates in the Michigan Department of Education review of its teacher preparation program to assure that the curricula aligns with state standards/essential goals and objectives for P-12 education.
- The School of Education has several full-time support staff to assure that the teacher education program curricula standards and rules for P-12 teacher preparation are followed:
C. How does the unit ensure that teacher candidates have a clear understanding of the ELSMT and how they apply to their continuing development as a professional educator?
- Students are introduced to ELSMT, Standard #7 in
EDUC 206 Educational Technology in conjunction with the State recommended/developed tools and resources in order to understand the importance of integrating technology into their teaching practices.
Students are familiarized with ELSMT in
EDUC 330 Instructional Planning and Delivery,
EDUC 430 Instructional Delivery and Evaluation,
EDUC 491 Directed Student Teaching, and
EDUC 499 Professional Seminaras an assessment tool for what they are expected to know and be able to do as a certified Michigan teacher.
Near the end of the student teacher's field experience, the student is required to take the
Standard for Michigan Teachers Survey which allows the student to reveal their perception of how well FSU's teacher preparation program prepared them to meet Michigan's standards.
D. How does the unit ensure that teacher candidates meet the preparation requirements in reading instruction for elementary and secondary candidates?

- Student Teachers review Michigan's teacher credentialing system in
EDUC 499 Professional Seminar as a required co-requisite to student teaching.
The School of Education has a
Teacher Certification Office and employs a full-time Teacher Certification Officer and Vocational Certification Officer.
The School of Education provides a newsletter style web page for
current students and student teachers, which provides state resources for information of Michigan's credentialing system.
