English Education Program - College of Arts and Sciences

The English education B.S. degree program prepares students to teach English at the secondary level. The program focuses on preparing prospective teachers for the challenges of teaching students from a broad range of educational and cultural backgrounds. Drawing upon Ferris State University's traditional areas of strength within teacher preparation, the program will prepare students to teach in vocational-technical centers, alternative and magnet schools, tech-prep programs within traditional high schools, and in other non-traditional educational settings.

Entrance Requirement: 2.5 HSGPA AND ACT English subscore of 18.

Progression Standards:Students must achieve a minimum of B in English 150 and English 250, and must maintain a 3.0 average in all courses with ENGL/LITR/JRNL prefixes and achieve a minimum of C grade in all required courses within the major.

Teaching is a profession that requires a high degree of professional ethics and so it is important for students to exhibit ethical behavior; therefore, any instance of cheating or plagiarism may result in expulsion from the program based on a review by a panel of English Education faculty.
